dmsp was like those old movies that were absolutely stunning and had a really captivating sense of magic and color that we cant really capture today and then you google it and the wikipedia reads out how the filming killed like 30 people and permanently wounded 6 others

for ages the sentience of the machines was ambiguous. implied through flavor text. but then we got to read out their dying pleas for survival and it's like Oh.
and what makes it all extra juicy is that god created man in his image. and man created machine in his image. and how cruel a creation it was... to create something so *alive* but so utterly chained to its creators.
like. they feed on blood. they cant survive without humanity. they cant survive without fulfilling the purpose they were made for. in a sense, theyre the perfect children- where mankind ate the apple of knowledge and disobeyed god, the machines remained forever tied to the yokes of human war and bloodshed. even after humanity is dead and gone by the hands of their "successful" children, the machines still continue their purposes in their absence. even when the creation of the machines "backfired". they never really Failed at what they were made for. they were just doing their jobs Too Well. machines made to crush the machine made to crush the machine. this is what you wanted- perfect children.
and the way the machines almost seem to find a sort of belonging in hell.... ripping through the depths of depravity and human suffering like candy as hell stands by, tosses them sinners and demons to whet their appetites, and applauds. which is extra fun since hell was created by god, who immediately regretted and took deep shame in its creation, despite the fact that hell only ever did What It Was Made To Do. i wonder if perhaps hell sees itself in the machines...
now that i think about it, it's kinda wild that the powers still seem to be openly rallying under gabriel's name (calling themselves the children of gabriel) as they go into hell to search for him, seemingly concerned for his well-being ("where is gabriel and what have you done with him" and such). like gabriel Just slaughtered the holy council and displayed their bloody heads in front of a horrified crowd.
do they... agree with him killing those guys? is heaven more divided than we thought? was gabriel just more loyal due to his higher status insulating him from the systems of heavenly classism, and the average angel could go either way on their opinions of the council? are the powers open traitors or rebels???? or is the "what have you done with him" implying that they believe that the machine might have some sort of corrupting capabilities on him???
i like how the amazing digital circus is almost like. zoochosis: the show. like it's not directly stated or anything and it honestly might be just me seeing it (and my wonderful buddies @zalcagon and @skallyeen) but i find it interesting how the setting is almost like. zoo-animal like. but theyre whole people!!!! people dont do well in captivity!!! i find it cool to see similarities with how caine treats the other characters kinda how an irresponsible parrot owner takes care of a parrot. no hiding places and hes not really giving them the right kind of enrichment and he doesnt really allow them the ability to engage in naturalistic behaviors (making things, decorating their own environment, and even not really allowing them to experience mundane discomforts like having to wash dishes or sweep or get a stain out of your clothes! and then he gets all upset with them for being miserable with him... it's an environment that completely robs people of personal dignity and privacy and control! i find it very unique and i really do like its purposeful usage of child-friendly sanitization and how it uses it in contrast to the messy relationships between the characters and such
like. ive seen some people pointing out how Normal jax acts in the spudsys episode. and my interpretation was that it's because caine is finally allowing them to have an experience in a naturalistic environment!!!!! they get to feel the low-stakes relief of ducking into the back to hide and shirk responsibilities!! they get the inconvenience of being exhausted and you wish your shift would end already so you can go home!!! jax's asshole behavior is essentially jax exhibiting human zoochosis!!! him purposefully getting himself excluded from his peers is the human (a very social animal heavily reliant on others) equivalent to a wolf gnawing at its leg!!! it's a parrot plucking out its own feathers!!
and the worst part is that the're *not* zoo animals!! they're people!! they can communicate perfectly well with caine, and they often do complain about their mistreatment with perfect clarity!! but his own egotism and his own aversion to emotionally "locking in" are what prevents him from being liked by these people who are just as trapped here with each other as he is!!!
in episode eight in particular, zooble asks, in no uncertain terms, that they would like to have an emotional break period before their next adventure so that they could process All Of That from episode seven. but caine's own egotism keeps him from really listening to them and building a genuine rapport somewhat (or at the very least some appreciation for the show of good will)!!
they hated him because he was inconsiderate and irresponsible!!! and then he has the audacity to be all miserable over their dislike of them!! i like caine a lot and i acknowledge that he was just doing his best. but i just like that he was doing his best but all of this still couldve been avoided if he just Listened!!!
i just think that it's a very fun way to view the story.....
i think that lace would probably get dirty super easily, since shes a perfect white. she probably goes outside of the citadel and has to clean her little feets before she comes back and displeases her mother with her gray little yucky dusty paws... sad! maybe thats why phantom is gray. they got banished and decided to roll around in charcoal like a puppy

new tdac episode was fire. everyone on twitter is posting like it's the end of the world. twitter is finally good again for one brief moment... we all dig in the nutrientslop of the whalefall. heres some of my favorites (there's a lot more but i cant share them as easily because they contain videos and gifs and would be a pain in the ass since i cant screenshot audio)
with all the love and graciousness in my heart e33 should Not have won best art direction at the game awards. like im genuinely happy for them and i wish them the best but christ alive. winning against hades 2 AND silksong is insane. i have never once looked at e33 and thought anything notable about its aesthetics or art direction. with all of my love, it looks like any other big budget game released within the last 10 years. even ignoring my obvious silksong bias, hades 2 has some absolutely insane artistry in its visuals and its stylization. like christ alive LOOk at this
more under cut
and the worst part is that 3d games *can* have really good and notable art direction. but quite frankly clair obscur is nothing special in that aspect. for example:
these are five entirely different games from entirely different genres and entirely different studios. claire obscur, halo infinite, doon eternal, baldur's gate 3, and shadow of the colossus. several of these are good games that i've played and actually enjoyed a lot! they genuinely are visually impressive! but theyre not anything new!!! thats just a fact!!! theyre not particularly notable!!
for comparison. here are several 3d games that serve as proof that 3d games *can* be visually distinct and even compete with impressively drawn 2d games such as silksong and hades 2. (chants of sennaar, a short hike, the long dark, disco elysium, outer wilds, and ultrakill)
once again. im genuinely very happy for e33 and its fans. i am. but i really do wish we got to see more appreciation for games that forgo the "movie aesthetic" to try out something more visually distinct and unique, especially since video games (and the medium of animation as an extension) as a medium is still fighting off the reputation of being "for kids" unless it's visually mimicking the realistic and "gritty" style of live action films... sigh. congrats to e33 though and at least silksong won best action adventure game!!!
really funny how protagonist susie deltarune is. she has the most free will. everyone loves her. you could line up no fewer than four ships surrounding her specifically just bc everyone loves her so much and wants to be her friend. shes got a training arc. shes literally perfect
