Dokomi Cosplay Ball 2019 was a great evening again. It’s an event I look forward to every year when I can get my hands on tickets. Every year we can attend we make sure our cosplays adhere to the dresscode. As you can see, you can have a play around - it doesn’t have to be a tux and poofy dress every time~ 

I like the Dokomi Ball because they do have a high standard of what dress is acceptable at the ball and they will lend out emergency clothes or send people home if they are not dressed appropriately. Until midnight they also predominantly play songs to ballroom and Latin dance to. 

Now, this may seem elitist or intimidating, however they do not do this to exclude people. The dresscode is there to uphold the atmosphere and no one is forced to dance a certain way. I admire how they have a vision of “that ball you see at the end of Disney films and you just want to rock up in a stunning outfit” and are aiming towards it. For those who prefer a more relaxed setting, Dokomi also has the J-Disco on at the same time.

A lot of the songs they played were rather fast. We took a few breaks and hoped a slow waltz would come on instead of Viennese waltz. So I’m glad I was able to give that feedback in the post-event questionnaire.

Again, I am grateful they play ballroom and Latin dance music. As a German it was expected of me to know how to at least waltz for my school graduation. Then when I was abroad in Japan and China I learnt a few German poems by heart and the dancing also really came in handy that I had something cultural to share when I was asked to. 

I was never disciplined at learning an instrument, so for a long time I wanted to learn how to dance ballroom to at least interact with music in some form. Moving to the UK, I realised people don’t dance as much, at least not “formal” dances, which I think is a shame. This is not supposed to sound snobbish, it’s just that structured dancing such as the waltz or the rumba actually give me the confidence to get on a dance floor - even if you only now the basic step you can dance to virtually any song and look like you know what you’re doing.

On top of all of this is the cosplay element. After spending months on an outfit it’s nice to have a purely social platform dedicated to fantastic cosplays without being cramped between stalls and worrying about the weather outside.

Czeski premier Bohuslav Sobotka zapowiedział we wtorek, że jeszcze w tym tygodniu złoży na ręce prezydenta Milosza Zemana dymisję swojego rządu, co uzasadnił wewnątrządowym sporem wokół prywatnych spraw majątkowych ministra finansów Andreja Babisza.
