Body Says Part II
When I first heard of Body Says, I assumed trying it out would be disastrous. Maintaining a certain level of self discipline is necessary for all functioning members of society - blindly obeying body without consulting other faculties seems crazy and potentially dangerous.Â
To my surprise, Body Says day was much like any other day as of late, leading me to believe that the healthy habits I’ve been working so hard on lately are actually craved by my body on a purely physical level. For example, I was sure as a recent non-smoker that there would be some point in the day where Body would Scream for a cigarette and I would have to listen. Turns out body said no smoking.Â
After completing the 24 hour experiment, it seems to me that Body Says can be quite valuable for self study. It creates a unique opportunity for introspection when we are able to identify and isolate moments where our body and minds contradict each other. Studying these moments of contradiction or surprise can lead to a deeper understanding of self; Body Says may also be helpful in identifying some of our harmful behavioral patterns. Although potentially uncomfortable, recognizing and understanding our true intentions and desires can help us modify our behavior and move towards a more balanced life.
Body Says Part I
In a recent CYG podcast, one of the ladies explains the philosophy of Body Says, a 24 hour period where one listens only to physical, primal desires (body talk) without allowing the mind interfere in decision making. Intrigued by this idea, I decide to try it out and see what my body has to say.
