Honest to god this is really starting to piss me off. I'm starting to think y'all have forgotten that people in fact look different as they show signs of age, because it seems like the minute someone starts to show their age, people start whipping out accusations of plastic surgery and botox.

To start with, shaming people for cosmetic procedures is already trashy af, but it's especially annoying when people do it towards people that they're only speculating have had a cosmetic procedure done. This is not someone you know personally. This is not someone that you know the details of their health and their care routines. You don't have any proof aside from you think they look different. And people are spreading fucking rumors like a bunch of fucking middle school mean girls.

Furthermore, even if they DID get work done, maybe can we NOT start trashtalking people for doing what they want with their appearances? Like I thought we were making progress on the concept of bodily autonomy and the idea that people should get to make their own choices about their bodies. That doesn't just mean piercings or hair dye or tattoos, it doesn't just mean HRT and gender affirming surgery. Bodily autonomy also includes people that get botox or a facelift or hair plugs. It includes people that want more body hair, less body hair, extreme body mods, liposuction, nose jobs, bigger boobs, smaller boobs, no boobs, phalloplasty, whatever. The simple fact is, It's not anyone else's fucking business.

Yes, it is absolute shit that our culture has people so self-conscious of their appearance and so tangled up in beauty standards that sometimes they feel they need to have their bodies surgically altered. But that's a problem with the culture, not with the people getting work done. And when you start throwing accusations around and being scornful of people's choices about their body, for any reason, you are participating in enforcing beauty standards and body restrictions. You talk shit about people getting visibly older, but you also talk shit about them changing their appearance. You talk about what a shame it is someone "isn't aging well", but if they "age well" but also are visibly aging at all, suddenly you're shaking your head about botox? Talk about damned if you do, damned if you don't.
