On this 27th of February THSN commemorates and celebrates Dominican Independence Day con toda mi gente dominicana. Did you know that nuestra Quisqueya la bella is one of the few countries in the world that has fought and won their independence twice? First Dominicans won their independence from Spain in 1821 and then from Haiti on February 27th 1844 with whom we still share the island. Each 27th of February Dominicans are proud to celebrate and pay tribute to the founding fathers of la patria, Duarte, Sanchez y Mella, known as la Trinitaria, in honor of their role in leading us toward Dominican Independence.
