Examples of what I mean that online fandom has no say in story:
Example #1
Finn/Kasim - I remember quite a few people online swore they were the new Robron and wanted it so much.
GA had no interest so the show didn't go anywhere they hadn't intended for them to go.
Example #2
Chas/Paddy - online opinion of them is pretty consistently negative/bored.
The GA, however, LOVES them and so they will write for them.
Example #3
Bobel - HATED SO MUCH ONLINE.
GA loved them though so they ran with it. It took new producers to decide to go different places with the characters but that was after months of keeping them offscreen so the GA wasn't as invested.

Pete/Rhona - surprisingly loved by both GA and online. I don't think they expected that - they were a place holder until Paddy and Rhona reunited but then the audience loved Chaddy and loved Pete with Rhona and ta-da, here we are!
And lastly - the dreaded ONS and subsequent baby story. We know how that went.
