This song popped into my head earlier this evening. I still remember the first time I listened to this album. I was in college. It was a hot night. I had the windows open and there was a breeze coming in. I fell in love with the entire album from the first listen. I’d forgotten about it a little, probably because I associate it with a difficult time in my life, but it’s undeniable that Bobby Wratten is a melancholic jangly pop genius.

you’d think this was a fun song from that noodley bassline...but no. because it’s bobby wratten and writing a depressing suicide note as the lyrics to this seemingly fun and simple melody was just what he did best...first in the field mice, to northern portrait library, then in trembling blue stars, and then the occasional keepers. i don’t know if he’s still making music, but there was a summer while I was in college that i aurally DEVOURED everything he ever did. i already knew of the field mice, but was just catching on to everything else that he did. and this was back in the days when finding music like this meant you had to go and dig around at a place like Amoeba... I still have all the CD’s to show for it!
