On the heels of End Of An Earâs well received âGrave Cityâ compilation of studio recordings, 12XU is releasing two live albums from Dallasâ incredibly influential and fucked-before-their-time STICK MEN WITH RAY GUNS, âProperty Of Jesus Christâ (recorded in 1984 at Houstonâs Lawndale Art Annex) and â1000 Lives To Dieâ (recorded in 1987 at Dallasâ Theatre Gallery during the bandâs final show). Recordings have been restored / beefed up by Jack Control of Enormous Door Mastering, and lacquers cut by Matt Barnhart at Chicago Mastering Service, befitting these crucial documents of one of US punkâs most fearless outfits at the peak of their powers. Though the material has been available on CD and digital download previously, this is the first time these performances from the foursome of Bobby Soxx, Clarke Blacker, Scott Elam and Bob Beeman have been issued on vinyl. Has any American band before or since come close to making antagonism an art form? Iâm sure your short list is fascinating, maybe even worth arguing over. But Iâd rather play these albums again. Short of a time machine, itâs as close as youâll come to being in the thick of unique moments in band vs. audience history thatâs unlikely to be matched by anyone in 2016, try as they might. preorder at 12XU.bigcartel.com âI fondly remember Bobby Soxx on his back porchâŚchopping bibles with a meat clever and throwing a color television at a Mexican family. This band murdered Dallas.â â Gibby Haynes âStick Men with Ray Guns formed in 1981 in Dallas, a product of the same 275-mile long cultural petri dish that bred Big Boys, Butthole Surfers, The Dicks, and Scratch Acid. Itâs a testament to the influence and depravity of the first wave Texas hardcore scene that SMWRGâs antics have been largely lost to the ages. Their shows, according to local lore, verged on performance art. But scores of bands have since stolen their shtickâfighting audience members, using the mic as a public colonoscopy probe, etc. The mythology of the Wild Frontman has masked early punkâs capacity to attract people with mental illness. To be a wacko underground vocalist in the early 1980s, especially in places like Texas, meant being someone with an above-average capacity to inflict and receive punishment. Stick Men frontman Bobby Sox excelled at both.â â Sam McPheeters, Vice "a singularly inspired mixture of misanthropy, psychosis and an audience-baiting live show." - Mojo âIâll tell you what sums up Texas â Stick Men With Ray Guns, the scariest band I ever saw . . . Bobbyâs girlfriend spent the whole set trying to give him a blowjob...then he stuck the mic up his ass, and the crowd got angry and he goes, âIâll take you all on!â So they come at him onstage, and he swings the mic stand and takes them all out. Then, one Christmas Eve, he held his grandparents hostage. Had the whole SWAT team around his house.â â Paul Leary âHe got shot point blank by a speed dealer once. He just stood there . . . the bullet bounced off his sternum, went right out again without hitting any vital organs. He was like, unfazed by it. One time he hit a guy over the head with an axe to get him to leave his house. The police said, You trying to kill him? and he said, 'hell no! If I was trying to kill him, heâd be dead.'â â Jeff Pinkus
