Ellen Thesleff - Harvesters in Boat II, 1924 Ellen Thesleff (1869 - 1954) was a Finnish expressionist painter. As a child, she had private art lessons, and then, in 1887, studied for two years at the Finnish Art Society Drawing School. Thesleff began her painting career as a symbolist, painting in a simple and emotive style. After moving to Paris, her paintings took on soft grey tones. Themes of expressionism and modernism were explored later in her career.
