One of the locks at the Ballard Locks is under repair, and will be closed for several months. They are over 100 years old and actually could use about $40 million in upgrades but for now one is getting a much-needed new valve.
Seeing an entirely dry boat lock is an uncommon sight, and the one thing that really struck me was seeing that port-a-john down in there. The two workers just below the walkway on the air-lift were using high-pressure water to remove barnacles from the lock walls.
