“Of the guys who come from behind in karting, I think the best is Carlitos Sainz, and maybe soon he can get his chance" Words of Fernando Alonso, who has raced alongside the son of the Spanish rally champion and has seen a special thing on him. And the opportunity will soon become official. AS has learned from sources close to the team, he has been signed over the next five years as a driver of the Red Bull Junior Team program. And, to begin his development in the cars, will compete in 2010 in Formula BMW.
A few days ago Sainz Jr. was the brightest in the selection process of that competition that coincide with some of the races of the F1. And, although he arrived without experience in those cars, he has been able to do private tests on other types of cars. In karting he has been runner-up in Europe and Asia-Pacific champion, regardless of being struggling to win the National. He has ways, but now he must take the right steps if he wants to be, with 19 or 20 years in Formula 1, as has Jaime Alguersuari, who also comes from this quarry.
His teammate at Toro Rosso, Buemi, also belongs to the young riders, and the intention is that the Red Bull team B will be the seedbed of future figures. This program has its biggest star in Vettel. After debuting in 2007 with BMW, in 2008 he jumped to Toro Rosso and surprised with a victory and with a second half of the year among the best. Yesterday he was smiling on the Nagoya-Frankfurt flight in tracksuit. Like it was nothing. He still fights for the World Championship against Button and for Carlitos Sainz may be the third mirror in which he can look at, after his father and the best F1 driver on the planet, Alonso.
