Is Your Weight Actually Healthy? Your BMI Can Give You a Starting Point
We often look at the number on the scale and immediately ask:
"Am I at a healthy weight?"
But weight by itself doesn't tell the complete story.
Your height matters too—and that's where BMI (Body Mass Index) comes in.
BMI uses your height and weight to provide a simple screening measure that can help classify weight status in adults.
For example, standard adult BMI categories include:
🟢 18.5–24.9: Healthy weight 🟡 25.0–29.9: Overweight 🔴 30+: Obesity 🔵 Below 18.5: Underweight
But there's an important caveat:
BMI isn't a direct measurement of body fat.
Muscle mass, body composition, waist circumference, age, lifestyle, and other health factors can influence how meaningful a BMI number is for an individual.
That's why BMI should be viewed as a starting point—not a final health verdict.
