How do you do the motion blur in your art?

Hey there! It's a pretty simple process, however, the program I use is procreate (for the ipad pro) so I'll be showing how to do it there. I'll talk about how to do it in other programs such as Clip Studio Paint and Sai, though.

First step! Prep your canvas. I’ve chosen Hooty bc yes

Second step! Duplicate the layer where you want to blur something. On procreate, you can simply drag the layer left and hit duplicate. On Clip Studio, left-click the layer, and some options will come up; within those options is duplicate layer. On Sai (1 and 2, I believe) the best way to do it is to just copy and paste the layer.

Third step! Stay on the layer you duplicated. Hide the layer below it. The layer below will now be considered a backup. Always keep it, in case you don’t like the blur, or you decide to edit/change something down the road.

Fourth step! Now, on procreate, the menu bar up top is a bunch of icons that will show more options once you click and expand. In the “adjustments” menu (the wand), there is a couple of options for blurring art. For this specific instance, I’d like to use perspective blur. In Clip Studio, go to the Menu Bar, then Filter, then Blur. It has a bit more options than Procreate. The substitute would be “Motion Blur” In Sai, it’s the same as Clip Studio. Filter>Blur, however, it only has a gaussian blur.

Fifth step! In Procreate, for a positional perspective blur, you have this circle that you can move. Whatever is outside that circle will be blurred. You can adjust the blur by moving the slider left or right. In Clip Studio, once you hit motion blur, it’ll bring up a menu that has the strength of the blur and the angle (among other options. Basically, it’s way more detailed) In Sai, it’s just one slider that can adjust how strong the blur is.

Once you’ve made the appropriate adjustments, you’re done!

Hope that was clear! I also know of other programs, such as firealpaca, ibispaintX, and autodesk sketchbook. I can explain how to do it in those programs too, if people need it. There are also websites online that can blur your pieces, however, you might lose some resolution.
