Summary
“They found themselves in a room that should never exist. This was a time of armistice and prosperity, and yet, there they were, a testament to the price that peace exacts.”
'We're better off as friends.'
The words echoed in the liminal spaces inside his head, taunting him. The mistake stared at him blindly; he broke her heart. The moment the speech fell from his lips, he'd been living with the consequences; he yearned for the time she was his, but the circumstances refused to grant him a second chance. A complication regarding a mission stood in their way — an unknown entity orchestrated and held the strings of fate and destiny.
The operation was wrapped in a veil of secrecy; at stake, teetering at the verge, was the survival of their way of life. The risks were great, and failure was not an option.
Falling in Love and dreaming of a future were a luxury she couldn’t afford. She should have known better. It was a costly mistake, one that Logan was going to pay the price for. His heart was on the line, and she knew she was going to be the one who'd deal the devastating blow, breaking it in a way he’d never recover, like Howlett.
How was she supposed to reconcile that she loved him more than life itself, and yet she’d hurt him beyond forgiveness?
“You can’t save me…not this time.”
The words laced with an unwavering devotion, uttered devoid of pretense, resolute, a determination made as if the moment had been etched by destiny long before their paths crossed. The ocean blue irises deepened, beheld her beautiful emerald green ones, locked, he refused to yield, as they stood at the precipice.
Author's Note:
Update: 03122026. It's been almost a year since this story was brought into the ether. I've grown as a writer. I will be editing. The story will remain the same, major plot points and beats, I'm just aiming for a better reader experience for both you and me.
A story is just letters on a former blank sheet of paper, until a reader decides to engage with the written word. Thank you😊 for being here. If you are so inclined, say hello in the comments. I'd love to hear from you. [Chapters 21-30 on the editing block]
This story stemmed from a simple premise: “What would happen if Logan and Builder broke up?”
From there, the intricate web grew into this monster of a story, with twists and turns that I, someone new to writing, didn’t expect. Join me as we discover and navigate the story together.
An AU that seeks to explain why the builder is adept at fighting and why Atara readily offered assistance during the Siege of Sandrock. The story takes place after Act III of MTaS. When asked what it was all about in relation to the game, I envisioned it as a DLC after the main story.
NSFW chapters are tagged. 🗡️⚔️🗡️ The true warrior behind the words… Special thanks to my non-player sister, beta-reader: CynthiaMD
