Realistic portrait of Simone . Drawing this really made me realize how many people don’t even realize their own prejudices. Many people whom have said toxic masculinity is getting better and claim to believe in equality have also commented on my portrait of Simone contrasting what they have said before. Such as, “who is the portrait of this woman celebrity?” I answered with, “it’s my character Simone, he is a boy.” To that their eyes widened taking another look at my portrait, as if checking to see if something changed to make him more “manly.” They then said, “those look like flowers though? And i thought that was a fur coat?” Immediately they questioned if what I intended to show in the piece was something else, as they must have interpreted it wrong. When I told them that yes, it is supposed to be like that, they looked at me in amusement. One even said to the other sarcastically, “you should wear flower crowns.” He said, “I would have to shave.” They made fun of the apparel, then questioned why I chose to draw drag.(Simone is not drag) . Just because a boy has long hair, he is not a girl. Just because a boy likes flowers, he is not a girl. A boy wearing a dress is still a boy, the dress doesn’t change his gender. A girl wearing a dress is a girl, if she says she is. And likewise for anyone. . I’m honestly fed up with toxic masculinity, homophobia, transphobia, racism, and other forums of hate. It’s 2019, it’s been too long where people ignore their own prejudices and hurt everyone around them. Please take this year to face yourself. Sometimes we can be our biggest enemy without realizing it. So become more respectful and aware this year, care for your fellow humans around you. And make this year a good one ✌️ . #art #coloredpencil #prismacolor #portrait #blujaeioc #toxicmasculinity #hate #homophobia #lgtb https://www.instagram.com/p/BsJnNp3nW48/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=16hab17wub55m
