Molokini has π π‘π€π© to offer: β£ β Molokini is a crescent-shaped, partially submerged volcanic crater which forms a small, uninhabited islet between the islands of Maui and KahoΚ»olawe β£ β‘ The islet has an area of 23 acres, a diameter of about 0.4 miles, and is 161 feet at its highest point β£ β’ Molokini is a HawaiΚ»i State Seabird Sanctuary. β£ β£ Molokini is a major destination for scuba diving, snuba (basically a hybrid of scuba & snorkeling), and snorkeling π€Ώ β£ β€ Its crescent shape protects divers inside it from waves and the channel's powerful currents, though diving also takes place off the 300-foot sheer outer wall, usually by more experienced divers. β£ β₯ The crater houses a reef with visibility as deep as 150β. The water depth in the majority of the allowed dive spots is 20β50β. β£ β¦ Molokini is home to about 250 species of fish, many endemic β£ β§ Molokini attracts many tour boats, to protect the reef against damage from dropped anchors, the Hawaii State Division of Boating and Recreation established fixed mooring buoys allocated to tour boat operators. β£ β¨ Federally owned, the U.S. Coast Guard & the Hawaii Division of Forestry and Wildlife must provide permission to land. There are also regulations that prohibit fishing, collecting or removal of specimens and fish feeding.
