College Morning Routine (summer edition!)
Hey y’all! Now that my semester is finally finished, I thought I’d dive into summer by sharing my most recent morning routine. (Keep in mind that every day’s schedule is different, and sometimes I have work at 7 am so there isn’t enough time for me to do some or most of these things. This is based on a day when I don’t have to go anywhere till 9 or later. And I’m also quite the early riser!)
Now that that disclaimer’s out of the way, here are the things I try to do every morning that I can:
Get out of bed right away. As soon as my alarm goes off, I try to force myself up, brush my teeth, throw my hair up (since it’s definitely crazy from sleeping), and brew some coffee.
I’ll immediately chug said coffee, throw on some workout clothes, fill up my water bottle and head to the gym.
I tend to workout between 45 minutes-one hour. I’ll mostly do cardio (treadmill or elliptical, depending on the day) and then focus on one area of the body for about 15 minutes at the end before stretching.
When I get home (usually around 6:45), I’ll hop in the shower, wash my face, change into regular clothes and make breakfast. I always try to clean up my room at this point, too—put things away, light a candle or open a window, and make my bed.
A note about breakfast: if you’ve just been working out, make sure to eat something with a lot of protein! I also like to include a bit of sodium and natural sugar, since those levels can be low after exercise. (I’ll often slice up an apple with some peanut butter and add a handful of cashews, since I’m still not super hungry so early in the morning.)
I like to watch an educational or interesting YouTube video while I’m eating—like Crash Course!
After breakfast, I’ll sometimes make my own version of the Starbucks London Fog tea latte. I work at Starbucks and can attest to the fact that my at-home version is still very different, but just as good. (I can make a post about how to make one if anyone wants!)
While I’m drinking my tea, I’ll make my to-do list for the day and write some morning pages if I have time.
If I feel like wearing makeup, I’ll throw on some fun music or a short podcast to listen to while I’m doing so.
By this time, it’s probably around 8 ish, so I’ll get to work!
