My brother’s first full day home with the new blue cast.
He got it yesterday after they confirmed the break. It’s still fresh—bright blue from just below his knee all the way down, ending in that soft white padding so his toes stick out free. They look pretty normal: short clean nails, the usual creases, a little pink right where the padding sits. Nothing crazy swollen or bruised, just his regular toes poking out the end like they’re making sure they still work.
He’s been on the couch basically all day with the leg propped up on the ottoman, same gray sweats, controller in his hands. Says it aches more than it really hurts, and it gets worse if he lets it hang down. Already figuring out the crutches, the plastic shower cover, and how not to roll onto it when he sleeps.
Six weeks, they told him. Maybe less. For now it’s just this—blue cast, toes free, game on, and everything moving slower.
I already claimed first signature rights.
