Here's a list of my top 10 fave anime, physical style! I promise I'll make some more in-depth, separate posts about the blu-rays I haven't already highlighted another time. Also: yes, horror is my fave genre ◕⩊◕
Boogiepop Phantom (2000)
Black Lagoon (2006)
Elfen Lied (2004)
Highschool of the Dead (2010)
Jormungand (2012)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995)
School Days (2007)
Serial Experiments Lain (1998)
Shiki (2010)
Higurashi When They Cry (2006)
This is not in any particular ranking order because, to be frank, I never think about things that way. My criteria for what makes something a fave is simply personal enjoyment. I've never been interested in what I call "critic culture", where everybody strives to have palatable taste, lest some internet stranger tell them that their taste is shit. I certainly don't care about arbitrary numerical ratings on websites, either.
Can we like…normalize DVDs and blu rays and 4ks having subtitles please
New physical media that's come in over the last day or two. All of these items were 50% off, so I had to pull the trigger! Regarding The Shield of Achilles, one of these days, I really want to write and publish something smart about Auden. As for Shakespeare in Bloomsbury, its longest chapter is on Virginia Woolf, and I really want to see what Marjorie Garber has to say about Woolf and Shakespeare. Finally, now that I have Ivan's Childhood, I just need Solaris to have all the Criterion Collection's Tarkovsky discs.
Hey there, been a while since I made a post like this. Not for lack of trying though, I wanted to just be doing regular posts as soon as I was settled into the apartment but life rarely agrees with ideas like that and I tend to get brain worms from time to time so with been on a bit of an unscheduled break the last couple months.

Too often segregated within an academic and cultural niche, Yiddish cinema is in fact a varied and vibrant genre ripe for reappraisal. Wheth
PSA- The Jewish Soul: Classics of Yiddish Theater is currently available at a hefty discount.
So, apparently Disney is not going to release any more physical home media to Australia.

Now that media is being sold on blu-ray, dvd and CD formats again, some of you might not have the proper players. Many already do, or know how to get them, this is not for those people. I'm not trying to talk down to anyone.
In my humble, and non-expert opinion, the best thing to do is get a blu-ray player or external player, because it will play blu-rays, dvds and cds.
This might be helpful.

Or look to a ratings website or organization which you trust.
But if your budget is like mine, you need something more afforable. You can look on ebay, Amazon marketplace, or any other stores that show you the links for used items, to find a drive or player at a lower price. But buyer beware! Check out the seller's rating, and how many people have rated them. Read the most recent ratings to see how your purchase might be handled.
You might want to see an actor's (musician's, writer's, director's) earlier work. That might only be available on dvd, or blu-ray, (or cd). Same rules with the used ones there.

Of course, most media can be rented or bought from streaming services. No one in 2024 needs any advice on how to do that. This is only for those of you who want to own what you buy, and sell it later if you find you don't want it anymore.
Good luck! Happy watching!
