5. “hey sorry but i kinda ran away from home so let me stay over tonight”
The soft pitter-patter of the rain outside somehow calms Jaebum’s tired body. The whole week has been extra strenuous, his boss had been extra mean as well. He just wants to sleep now, go to his bed and hide under his warm blanket. But the person in front of him makes it impossible in the moment.
Jinyoung. Jinyoung is there, sitting on his couch, like how he the first time he did almost seven years ago. Only that, now, he’s older and he doesn’t have Jaebum’s favorite smile on. It has been five years since they broke up, five long years of not seeing each other. It’s not like Jaebum doesn’t want him there, he wants it, he wants it so bad.
He just can’t make up why Jinyoung has been crying ever since he opened the door of his apartment. Jaebum’s itching to ask why, why is Jinyoung crying like that, but he’s not sure if he’s allowed to. He’s wearing Jaebum’s clothes now after the latter had asked him to take a shower, he was drenched in the rain when he came.
“Are you hungry?” Jaebum asks, giving Jinyoung a glance or two before he proceeds to the kitchen. There’s a habit he never seemed to forget even after they broke up; cooking for two. After all the years, someone, Jinyoung might actually eat the food he prepared. Jinyoung nods and stands up, then he walks timidly towards the dining table.
It’s almost dreamily in Jaebum’s eyes to see Jinyoung like that, again, after so long. “Jaebum hyung.” Jinyoung says as Jaebum places the bowl of kimchi on the table, in front of Jinyoung. Jaebum shifts his eyes towards Jinyoung, warmth creeping up inside him. He missed hearing Jinyoung’s voice, especially when he’s saying Jaebum’s name.
Jaebum doesn’t answer, but he goes to sit at the opposite chair from Jinyoung. “Hey, sorry.“ Jinyoung says, looking down on the food, playing with the chopsticks. Jaebum looks back at him, his eyebrows raised. “but I kinda ran away from home” Jinyoung returns the eye contact despite feeling shy.
“so let me stay over tonight” Jaebum has to pinch his leg under the table after. “Sure.” He replies, he really wants to ask Jinyoung a lot of questions. But it’s not like they are still friends. Jaebum nods and says, “You can take the bed.” then, he stands up. “I’ll just change the sheets and get some blankets.”
And just as he turns around, Jinyoung hugs him from the back. He can hear him crying, he can feel him trembling. Jaebum looks down on the pair of hands on his stomach and places his over it. “I’m sorry Jaebum hyung.” Jinyoung says as he buries his face on Jaebum’s back. “I was so coward back then, I’m sorry.”
Jaebum then turns around and cups Jinyoung’s face. “Don’t cry, Jinyoungie.” He says, searching for Jinyoung’s eyes. “I was never mad at you in the first place, don’t cry.” He whispers to him as he pulls him for a very much awaited and missed hug. Jaebum rubs Jinyoung’s back while the latter settles his head on his shoulder.
