this particular universe is a world where all the people are known as 'birdfolk' and all have wings based off species of irl birds!

they all live in a rigid caste system with birds of prey at the very top and every other species of bird below them

i themed their names around their traits and personalities (except for qingyuan's, she was named after the pond the azure dragon plucked a lotus from to create her)

here are their names in mandarin:

Ruan Kailin: 阮凯琳 (lit. meaning: Flute Victorious Jade) Qingyuan: 清源 (lit. meaning: Clear Spring (as in water not the season)) Huamin: 花敏 (lit. meaning: Flower Clever (yeah uh i have no idea why i named her this)) Fenjing: 奋精 (lit. meaning: Striving Spirit) Xiuying: 秀英 (lit. meaning: Elegant Flower (though ying itself can mean other things))

for the yellow champion question, kailin is meant to be a sort of...guide, i guess that's the right word. he's meant to unite the five champions together as planned by huanglong. he told them that the guide has a jade pendant, which is what kailin wears, but his was given to him by his parents so thats...maybe the wrong guy...?

as for trivia, uh...ill list the ones i can think of here!

fenjing is mute. he uses sign language to speak, but occasionally makes grunts and other vocal noises (usually when he wants to alert someone)

the five champions have this mode called 'deity mode', where they channel all the powers given to them by their deities. its basically super saiyan mode and they turn into miniatures of their deities. the cost is pretty high though, since their artificial forms (although heavily fortified) cant quite handle the power of literal whole ass constellations, so their bodies will slowly deteriorate the more they use them. its worse for the champions with the higher power levels like qingyuan and xiuying. here's qingyuan's deity mode:

qingyuan and fenjing can purr due to their animal traits

kailin is actually bard class. he uses audiomancy to attack. he can also buff his teammates this way (also fun fact apparently there are pentatonic notes associated with the five phases??? i just thought it was neat)

kailin also has empathic powers and aura reading

qingyuan, xiuying, and fenjing provide brute strength of the party, though qingyuan's strength lies more in swordfighting than raw muscle

huamin's gender is fluid but she uses she/her pronouns most of the time. being a shapeshifter is fun

there is a separate class of demon known as Neutron Star. they're on the same power level as black holes, but instead of being formed through intense amounts of rage and hatred upon death, they just have the determination to survive, and so neutron star demons are far more passive and docile than black holes. they look like this:

with that being said, the squad does have a neutron star pal who often vibes with huamin. his name is Xiao Guang (小光, literally Little Light). he's the little lad on the right. dont worry about the big one on the left she's dead.

chiyou's generals are the four perils of chinese mythology (because apparently they're naturally opposed to the four beasts of china). here they are:
