i think those are fake gems! there’s some evidence of gem experimentation in pink’s room, and pink can also create fake gem shards from dirt (shown in a single pale rose)
combined with pearl’s expertise, i think the two came up with the idea of rose quartzes after pink first shapeshifted into rose (to justify why rose q doesn’t look like other quartzes). in her first outing as rose, she’s referred to as just a quartz, not specifically a rose quartz.
and maybe rose quartz production actually DID happen on earth, but i think this would all happen post-pink’s initial shapeshifting into rose.
