date 7: in the blink of an eye...
After my dating spree of a week, I spent the rest of the weekend catching up with friends. My trio of dates made for good conversation and lots of laughs, especially about the last one. Poor guy.
Then on Sunday evening, Blinky texted me. He was invited to a director's screening of The Campaign, and asked if I wanted to be his plus one.
Seeing a hilarious new comedy (for free!) a week before it's in theatres? As a dating newbie, I naively think it would be wrong to turn down such an opportunity – what kind of livingspree am I on, anyway?
He got there early to reserve the seats, so when I arrive we chat for a bit in our seats before the screening starts.
We're both looking ahead at the screen, so I can't see if he's twitching or not. In retrospect this whole experience was such a trainwreck: it's fascinating and I can't look away.
When the movie ends, we bump into his friends outside.
I watch his face as much as possible to see his reaction – and the blinking is drastically reduced! It must be a nervous twitch?
He walks me to my car and lingers a bit awkwardly, and there's that moment where I can tell he wants to kiss me – then suddenly the blinking goes berserk again.
I lean in for a quick hug. This is too much for me. Au revoir, Blinky.
Update: On Modern Family, I noticed Ty Burrell, the actor who plays Phil, blinking rapidly during a close scene and realized this is exactly the same movement I witnessed. Ah ha! Maybe it's not as weird as I think? Still not going out with him again though.
