☮ = waking them up after a nightmare . 

Courfeyrac didn’t even realize he’d woken up at first, to him the only difference is in the awareness-

Actually, it’s more for the loss of what he’d seen, there weren’t vibrant images of what he thought it looked like, what his mind could still pull together. Their friends, people he didn’t even remember meeting but all dawn there by the same vision, the same hope. The sounds, of course, were supplied by memory, the gunshots, shouts, the slight break in Enjolras’ voice as he told them to get out of there, Combeferre being taken away from him...

But right now, there was Combeferre’s hands on his face, the sound of someone’s breathing seemingly echoing in the quiet of the room. Which was his own, the quiet sobs escaping his own lips. He pulled away, only to immediately burrow into the other’s chest.

Blindverse

Courf does actually go back to school at some point, once things get settled down once more. He was really hesitant, the loss of their friends only weighing him down more than the frustration he’d been feeling even before all of it happened, he wasn’t making progress like he wanted and it made him discouraged enough to want to not even try. After losing everyone, however,  he got more determined to do something that was actually worth a damn, he threw himself into learning braille more fully and trying to be more independent so Combeferre would be able to work without worrying about him going to class and such. 

When going through their friends’ things they found several presents for Courf’s birthday, as well as a couple things for Combeferre. They’d known the risk of what they were doing, and also had hoped their friends would be alive in the end, it was an unspoken agreement that they wouldn’t want Courf to die along with them. Among them were several audio recordings by Enjolras (because translating his notes to braille was slow and annoying) with a lot of his plans and everything, as well as a few messages for Courf himself. He could only listen through them once, it would be months before he could even try again. There was also a little braille typewriter for him that several of them pitched in to buy, in an attempt to get him kickstarted to go back to school, and it’s part of the reason he decides to go back.

He refuses to get one of those sticks, like he’s totally accepted his condition but he absolutely refuses to. He uses Combeferre or Maggie as his guide when he goes outside, and she goes to class or out to the store with him at all times. 

Courf actually has had mild headaches from the very beginning, and after the loss of their friends they get worse for a while, mostly psychosomatic. He naps a little more frequently, he’s always been one of those people who sleeps a lot when he’s upset and it helps him.

They do get married officially, at some point, but Courf insists on no ceremony, nobody else being there, just a judge. He didn’t want anything more, with their friends gone, but he also didn’t want to keep doing that to Comebferre. It takes awhile, however, and a bit of convincing, for a long time after that day he’s very much convinced on “what’s the point?” about everything.

Zombie verse

Courf has quite a lot of scars, both emotionally and physically honestly, the almost two years he was without Combeferre were very rough for him. He had a complete distrust in other people lead him to spend it all hiding from anyone and everyone, even people who might’ve helped him, and all the fighting and everything he learned to do alone. He’s much more hardened than he used to be, he can kill a zombie without a moment’s hesitation by now, and he’s almost afraid that he’s changed too much now, that after awhile Combeferre might start to notice it too.

It takes a long time for Courf to even be able to handle Combeferre being out of his sight, honestly. Despite knowing that he has his job helping around the base and everything he still sticks very close to his side, and the first time he loses sight of him for even a few minutes it sends him into a full on panic. It takes awhile for that to go away.

Courf eventually takes a job helping out in the kitchens, he wants to be able to help but can’t bring himself to go out with everyone else to collect supplies. He refuses to leave the shelter under any circumstance.

They both eventually try to build support to find out what the band of rogues have been doing, their numbers and everything, to try and stop them. Most people don’t agree with them, but the two of them have never really forgiven them for separating them, and they want to stop them. 

But also imagine Combeferre finding a ring amongst some of the things brought in from the scavenging groups, and sure it’s a little beat up and dirty and really they have no value anymore, but he takes it anyway and gives it to Courf as sort of a proposal because ‘heck, nobody really believes marriage is important anymore but I already thought I lost you once and damn it just go along with it okay?’ (and Courf cries like a baby, but actual happy tears because god Combeferre you can’t just ask someone to marry you during a zombie apocalypse you dork)

100 verse

Courf was among the 100, obviously, locked up for both punching a guard (or two) and damaging an airlock control when his brother was floated. He had been raised by relatives instead, since his mother refused to give him up, and he’d only found out a year or so beforehand that he even had a brother. He has no idea what happened to his mother or his father, but assumes they died when the Ark crashed to earth.

Courf and Ferre have known each other for awhile before they were imprisoned, although their relationship grew a lot more when they were on the ground. Combeferre was very protective of Courf from the very start, and they stuck together almost exclusively for awhile, and were among the first to shed their wristbands, eager for the freedom from the Ark’s strict rules and everything else.

Courf mostly stuck to jobs around camp, although he did go out scouting or on guard every now again, he wanted to do his part in the camp. He’d never been much of a fighter, but they all learned pretty quick, it was that or be killed and he had far too much to live for. All his life he’d dreamed of being on earth, on being able to see the flowers and sky, sunlight, things he’d only ever dreamed of. He finds himself constantly fascinated with everything, and sometimes forgets the earth is even dangerous now, it’s just so beautiful compared to the stark metal walls they’re all used to 

They first get separated when the Mountain men capture everyone, Courfeyrac was among those taken and Combeferre was not. He assumed that Combeferre was dead, since that’s what they were told, and he was among the first to be a little suspicious of what was going on, it all seemed too good to be true and his grief made it harder for him to enjoy the comforts they had around them, he wanted to be absolutely sure that he was gone and was determined to get out of the mountain. Because he was considered decently strong, he was also among those chosen to be harvested for their marrow, but he wasn’t killed, their operation interrupted by the others’ arrival.

10. While scared

“Combeferre? ‘Ferre, what’s going on, I don’t understand.” Courfeyrac’s voice was shaking and he hated it, he hated how terrified he was but he couldn’t let them just take Combeferre away from him. He didn’t know what he was going to do either, however, because neither of them could deny Combeferre’s involvement in the group, in their cause. But could they prove that he was actually there, that he’d even killed anyone? He wasn’t even really sure if he had, he had spent most of the time inside with Courfeyrac, and then they’d run away-

But the police, the government, they all wanted someone to blame. Anyone they could take down for this, for everything that had happened out there, all those people who had lost their lives. It had shaken up the cit,y but not in the way they had hoped, had everyone wondering how foolish those boys must have been to do this, to throw their lives away, and how dare they take so many lives in their stupidity?

And now they were coming to take Combeferre away from him, they were going to try and prosecute him for all of this, they were going to make an example of him to put this matter to rest and Courfeyrac couldn’t allow that, but they wouldn’t take him. They’d simply laughed when it was even brought up, as if he could do anything, could be a threat, he couldn’t even do anything. 

Courfeyrac has always known that he would give anything for their cause, for the good of the people.

That’s why he was one of the ones in the middle of the fray when everything started to go wrong, when the police had shown up with their batons and gasses and they’d had to fight their way out of it. He’d seen Combeferre by Enjolras, trying to get everyone out of there while still fighting for their cause, bless them-and then he barely remembered something hitting him and someone screaming his name and then everything went black.

So he wasn’t all too surprised to hear the beeping of hospital equipment and the murmur of hospital intercoms in the background when he came to consciousness again, and then he opened his eyes. And then he blinked, and then tried again, but everything was still dark, same the several attempts after-

Out of everyone after his accident, Courfeyrac was most anxious about seeing-well, not exactly, but being visited by-Combeferre.

He hadn't known what to say, or do, he'd been nearly inconsolable when he had first woken up and they had advised against visitors, but he knew they were all waiting for him. The nurse told him so, trying to cheer him up, she said she hated to see him so glum, usually after a rally, even with bumps and bruises, he was so happy. But how could he smile when the world was entirely in the dark?

So when he heard the nurse bringing Combeferre in he abruptly burst into tears, hiding his face as if ashamed.

He couldn’t believe it.

Combeferre had promised, through all the planning, promised he could be there, he’d help with any wounded and help him and Enjolras, like he’d wanted to before all of this happened. But now, the eve before the funeral, the big day they had planned to be the spark for their fight-and Combeferre was telling him he had to stay. And Courfeyrac wasn't having it, not after everything.
