❝Hmm…?~ ❞
She idly made herself comfortable upon his lap as she awaited his answer. She could taste how much he wanted to throw her off—his obvious resentment of her palpable by this point. The dragoness knew he desperately wanted to get back to his own timeline, but she’d be damned if she let that happen. With the Eclipse Gate destroyed, Sting seemed to be doomed to spend the rest of his life in this apocalyptic era—as far as he knew, that is. Rogue knew of o n e other way to get back but that involved potentially risking getting spotted by Acnologia…and that was one headache she would much rather avoid.
However, his answer did surprise her… He still believed that his Rogue wouldn’t turn out in the same fashion? What an absolute idiot!
❝If you truly believe that, then you’re a bigger imbecile than I originally thought.❞ She spat, her visible eye narrowing as she pulled away and glared down at his unwavering azure depths. ❝…which, for you, is a miracle Sting.❞
By this point, Rogue was far more annoyed with his answer than she let on. However, Sting was very good at reading people and judging by the smirk on his face, he knew exactly how much that answer had bothered her. Her lips twitched in irritation as she fought back the urge to sneer at him. Nevertheless, she kept her temper in check and merely covered up her annoyance with a snarky smirk of her own.
❝So very naïve…?❞ She idly chided, shaking her head with a shrug of her shoulders. ❝Your precious little Rogue is only one event away from becoming an abomination, as your stumpy little idol so eloquently called me. You cannot stop or change destiny, Sting. No matter how hard you truly desire for something to happen, something like what you want is just nothing more than fleeting dream that deteriorates into an unending nightmare. If you truly desire to live in your own world where you and your Rogue can live happily, then fine. But I promise you, it will never happen.❞
With a sarcastic little chuckle, a now malicious crimson gemstone stared down at him with a venomous tinge. Did he just compare the two of them yet again? Had her previous warning not been enough? And yet, she surprisingly found herself not as angry this time around. Her ebony brow furrowed before she pushed herself off of him and turned away from him, her slender fingers curling up as malignant shadows began to slather her very being. But, they did not attack—fluctuating with killer intent, the thrashed about as she stared down at her hand with an unidentifiable emotion with her visible gaze.
As much as she loathed to admit it, Sting was right… they were nothing alike.
