I've seen furry/scalie/monster-whatever porn before but while I do wonder occasionally like, "does it really look like that?" or "what are they basing themselves on?" (specially when it comes to mythical creatures like mermaids) I hadn't really looked into it.

Anyway, so about sharks specifically. Males have these things called claspers, it's what people have been calling "two dicks". They look more like thin long fins the color of the shark's belly, so they actually don't look particularly shocking or scary like other animals' dicks. They look kinda subtle even. How they work is that one of them is used to hold the female shark in place and the other penetrates the cloaca, opens up a little and releases (I think it's like knotting but I didn't look further into it, wikipedia described it as "opening like an umbrella" and another website described it as hooking). Also the one that gets inserted bends, kinda like a tiny leg lmao. When copulating the sharks can be beside each other or the male can go underneath (some art I saw they were side by side). A lot depends on species but apparently only one species uses both claspers, all others just insert one.

That said, from what I could tell, a lot of art doesn't make use of anatomically correct shark dick, it probably doesn't look as interesting as people would hope lolol but people do go for the two dick thing of course lol sometimes more human looking dicks, sometimes something else.

What I did notice is that a lot of mermaid art among others do use some kinda version of dolphin dicks lol It looks like a short tentacle and it's ahm what's the word, it hides, it goes back inside, it's concealed. so it probably sounds a lot more convenient if you don't want your designs to have their stuff hanging out all the time lmao.

Also dolphins do face each other when copulating, putting their bellies together (sharks seem to be very shy in comparison lol jk).

(Btw I found some really good guides for a multitude of animals, both horrifying and educational; thank you to these people who did the research so others don't have to lol).

By the way x2 I also looked up homosexuality in sharks because why not, however it's already unusual to spot sharks mating in the first place so it's currently unknown. Dolphins however are very homosexual lol but they also have a lot of stuff going on with hierarchy and stuff that I skimmed sorry.
