14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?

oof. at this point it’s unpopular to have any opinions in supercorp fandom. lena-specific unpopular opinion: i don’t actually think the concept of project non nocere is a bad thing (if you account for how it doesn’t make sense, but let’s set that aside). it’s really funny watching a mostly american fandom lose their shit about it, and just be like, okay this is not an objective opinion, your ideological context is showing.

22. Popular character you hate?

I’ve actually had this conversation with a friend of mine who also draws/writes, and we figured what it boils down to is that the audience doesn’t “see” quality the way the creator does. A creator sees the full spectrum from 1-10, while the audience might only see 1-3. (Or even only good/bad) So a work that the creator sees as a 5 or 6, and is disappointed by, still rates as a 2 for the audience, so it’s still “good.” That doesn’t take away from the 8 and 9’s even though they got the same review

I've seen a few (very few) popular fics that were written in 2nd person, but personally I avoid them. 2nd person is a very immersive perspective, it asks the reader to step into the story, be one with a character, which some people like, but if you're looking for honest opinions, I don't think it works in fanfic. All that aside, if that's the story you want to write, then write it! :) Ultimately it's not about what people will read, but what you have to say.

Very true. I am very much in the ‘I write for me, more than anything else’ camp, because I’ve watched the joy of writing get sucked out of people when they start trying to get formulaic about it.

Which is why I will always continue to write in second, even if none of those stories ever go up online.

But because so much effort goes into every story, and then so much more goes into the ones I put up for people to read, if it’s not the kind of thing people will give a chance to because second person is so difficult for people to enjoy, then it’s like, I don’t know if I wanna put in that effort, y’know? Cause sometimes it’s disheartening, which comes with the fanfic territory, I know, but still kinda ouch.
