On Day #28 of #BlacksInWine we will close the series with wine badass Tahiirah Habibi, founder of @thehuesociety. She was born and raised in Philly but she developed her love for wine in college. After graduating from Penn State, she attended the Philadelphia School of Wine and as  she learned more about wine and the culture of wine, she noticed the lack of diversity in the industry. This began the fire inside of her to become a disruptor and innovator in the wine industry.   She moved to Miami and began operating and managing some of the best wine programs in the city, which included J&G Grill in the St. Regis Bal Barbour and the infamous Michael’s Genuine. She also created private cellars and managed events for local, national and international clients such as pairings for the Haitian Food and Wine Fair. In addition, she was a wine expert at the Uptown Magazine Lexus event.   Now, she is excited to be the founder of Hue Society, a organization committed to the inclusion and education of women and people of color in the wine industry. Her love for teaching and her passion for the culture has led her to curate events focused on enhancing and empowering the community through music, art and culinary experiences. Day #27 of #BlacksInWine we bow down to Chrishon Lampley of @LoveCorkScrew. Chrishon, a former gallery and wine bar owner of Chicago’s Three Peas Art Lounge, realized she had a natural ability as an unofficial sommelier. “We were an art gallery with great wine. In 2010, we won Chicago’s Best Wine List. I’m the one who wrote the wine list — that’s how I knew I was great at this,” she said. From 2009-2011, Chrishon co-owned the intimate South Loop café where they premiered artwork from familiars such as Hebrew Brantley and began to build a list of regular clients seeking advice on wine choices. Unfortunately, a bad flood in 2011 caused Three Peas Art Gallery Café to close its doors, pushing Lampley into a cycle of soul searching. At the time, she was in a dark place, feeling the combination of failure, depression the deep funk of having to close a business. On Day #26 of #BlacksInWine we give praise to Patricia Willis, founder of Vondor Wines @VondorWine. Growing up in East LA, California, Patricia was always surrounded by food and wines at family & social gatherings. She developed an interest and then passion for wine. Her study and research of wines inspired her to leave a stressful work environment and create a brand in honor of the people who encouraged her to follow her dreams. Her brand is named to honor her son Servonte (Von) and her mother Dorothy (Dor). Patricia hopes to use her brand to empower women to follow their dream no matter the barriers. Day #25 of #BlacksInWine we salute Marcia Jones, creator of Urban Wine Connoisseurs @urban_connoisseurs Urban Connoisseurs Wine Group is a value added sales and marketing provider. Urban Connoisseurs supports Black owned wineries, vineyards and winemakers who produce fine wines. They promote these wineries through orchestrating relationships with retailers and other businesses to sell their brands. The mission of Urban Connoisseurs is to affect sustainable growth in the Black vintner community by increasing the number of Black Vintners in the US and abroad, create opportunities for the next generation to pursue various careers in the wine industry, and maintain brand and legacy for the Generation after Next. Marcee created the John June Lewis Scholarship Fund, which was named after first African American to own a vineyard and winery, as well as first winery in Virginia. This serves to preserve a name that may be lost over the years, and will provide financial assistance to African American students pursuing careers in the wine industry. Day #24 of #BlacksInWine we honor Shae Frichette of @frichettewinery , Owned by Greg & Shae Frichette, Greg is from Pasco, Shae from South Carolina. Both were living in Southern California when they met, married, and had their son Jayden. They wanted to move closer to family in either South Carolina or Washington. With a flip of a coin, the coin toss determined they would relocate to Washington. Both agreed when they moved, they wanted to create a business that would give them goose bumps. With a little research and cheerleading from friends, they decided to go into wine, opening their tasting room in 2013 and offering their first vintage of 2011 with 650 cases of wine. Day #22 #BlacksInWine we tilt our hats to Dan Glover of @lobjetwines Dan is the winemaker for L’Objet Noir Wines, a winery located in Healdsburg, CA (Sonoma County). Formerly a writer and producer in the music industry, Dan was drawn into winemaking through the allure of the Pinot Noir grape. Day #20 #BlacksInWine We raise our fists to Glenn Murray of @winecrawlusa Glen, a Memphis, Tenn. native credits his introduction and evolution into the world of wine to two ex-girlfriends and trips to Napa. “I wanted to do something that was a little more upscale than a beer crawl. This is a more upscale version of it. We use luxury limos, we use luxury coaches, we do food and wine pairings, we go to four or five-star restaurants most of the time, so it is a really sophisticated way to experience wine and food for that matter,” @cuisinenoir Curating gourmet food and wine experiences in luxury and style is @winecrawlusa based in #Chicago.
