I have considered opening my dms (in blackfandom) for people to be able to share their experience if they feel too scared or shy to say it in public. The only thing is with that is that I won't respond not because of inactivity from blackfandom but because I do not feel a need to comment on such when someone is sharing their experience to me in private unless they ask for input.

Because the thing is, the vas of Jax n zooble have said nega (clearly an allusion to nigga) and were cacklin about it for minutes straight like it was some funny joke. And OF FUCKIN COURSE white people were like “it was seven years ago!” “they were younger, they didn't know what they were doing” “anythin for a drama”, mind you they were all grown adults when they did that and seven years ago was not too long ago, a child who was born around that time is like on 1st or 2nd grade by now.

To be honest, I also blame the people on the viewin side of the live for not speakin up about it sooner. Because they should have thrown a scandal, a big fat tantrum on the same day that happened. This should not have waited seven years.

But anyway, here in Brazil we have a phrase going “fogo nos racistas” (lit racists on fire, is quite what it means) n we lowkey should get that phrase and start doing as it says, or else these people won't stop.

You wanna y'know what's funny? My most recent post on my main was literally made specifically because of that situation.

And personal take as a black person: Regardless of how long ago it was or what the "humor" was back then, they shouldn't have done that. They were aware that making the joke was racist, but they did it anyway. I am glad that they apologized for it and are taking accountability (hopefully).

That being said, the way some people are treating this situation is just proof to me that a lot of people in fandom, non-black specifically, do not care about black people.

Fuck, some black people do not care about black people, which isn't a surprise to me, surprisingly.

The amount of non-black people who think they have some sort of right to police how black people react to anti-blackness is concerning, but also not surprising. Not to mention that some of the "wokest people you know" get hesitant when anti-blackness comes up. Some people are even making their own "nega" jokes, or saying that it wasn't racist at all (despite Jax's VA himself literally saying that it was...)

It doesn't help that some black people genuinely are joining in on anti-blackness. I remember seeing a tweet thread from (seemingly) two black people joking about how "Gooseworx should say nigga." It's fucking bizarre to me that some POC can't figure out why racism is bad regardless of how it's done or how long ago it was.

It doesn't really help that Gooseworx is saying silent on this, despite joining in on the joke herself and apparently, now being resurfaced, having some very bizarre tweet regarding racism to making very bizarre jokes about sexual predators.

Fuck, I don't even blame the black people who barely care about this situation, not because it was 7 years ago, but because at the end of the day, anti-blackness has pretty much become the new norm of fandom spaces. There is always going to be anti-blackness in fandom. There is always going to be people who are vocal about their hatred for us.
