At first, I assumed it was nostalgia.

Now I'm not so sure.

What I'm seeing feels more like a search for older gestalts; larger structures of meaning made up of symbols, rituals, places, technologies, stories, and shared experiences that once helped people orient themselves within the world.

VHS tapes, CRT televisions, malls, diners, mixtapes, and other analog artifacts aren't the object of desire. They've become symbolic anchors for worlds that felt slower, more legible, and easier to understand.

And I don't think this stops at aesthetics.

It may also explain the renewed interest in older cultural narratives, political ideas, mythologies, and traditions. Not because they were necessarily better, but because they offered recognizable ways of organizing experience.
