At this point, do we even know if this reboot will be a remake or a sequel?

I'm all for a remake I guess, if it'll get a new generation into Buffy, I guess it can't be all bad. As for it "replacing" the original series in the eyes of some people, well I guess that's an unfortunate side effect.

As crazy as this sounds, there is a possibility a remake could be better - if the writing is as good as it was in the original, with some good special effects, it could be awesome.

Now, if it's a sequel, (or a story that takes place in the 'Verse before/or after Buffy was called) will they work with already established canon? Will it be a televised version of the comics as they stand?

So many questions, no answers.

How will race will affect the stories told? Good question. Now, I'm all for more diverse casting (especially in Whedon's projects, where let's face it, it's not as diverse as it could be) but I am genuinely curious why the choice to make Buffy black has already been decided before other details? If it's a remake, will all the characters be re-cast as other ethnicities? Personally, I couldn't care less what ethnicity a character is, but casting like any other decision has to have a reason. We've had a black Slayer before (Nikki) and she was killed by a white vampire. Problematic. I wouldn't want to see this again.

I'll tell you what I'd love to see with this reboot: a prequel/sequel new story set within the 'Verse that takes place before or after Buffy's time - a new Slayer called, with her own story to tell, and sure, make her black. I love that. Or Hell, let's see Nikki's story before she was killed. When she was called, how she adjusted to being a Slayer, what she was like. How she met Spike. How she raised her son while being a Slayer? I'd love that even more.

What I don't want to see is a remake of a already good show where Buffy just happens to be black but no one says why.

So, the other day, my whole world exploded when I received an email notification of a blog post from <a =”http://buffyfest.blogspot.com/2018/07/buffy-vampire-slayer-is-getting-reboot.html”>Buffyfest</a>. According to their people, a reboot was actually happening. No this was not a drill. So what did I do? I took a deep breath and got on the internet, in desperate search for confirmation this.

People have been talking about a possible Buffy reboot for years, so I didn’t give it a  lot of thought until I saw the internet practically explode. I did some research and well ladies and gents, it appears this 

Is. 

Actually. 

Happening.

Initially, my response was that of “meh.” 

But a part of me really wants to be excited for this, so I’m choosing to be. Even if it’s bed, I’m sure I’ll have a lot to say. And if it’s good, I’ll and others will have lots to say.

I’ve been itching for inspiration for a new blog since I retired my old <a =”http://www.fuckyeahnewtwinpeaks.tumblr”>Twin Peaks blog</a>, and next to that, there is no show I love more and am more passionate about than Buffy. So here I am. Thanks for reading and sharing.

Note: A couple things to remember: this will be a spoiler free blog. Once the episodes start airing, we can re-evaluate this, but for the time being, this blog will focus on opinion, discussion, news and gossip. Please do not refer to spoilers in comments. I welcome submissions of any kind, except spoilers.

I will always try to only cite legitimate articles. I do apologize in advance if I share any information that ends up being incorrect later on. As we all know, sometimes determining fact from fiction is hard online, and with rumors of a reboot swirling around for eons, this may prove especially difficult. Please do alert me if I have posted anything you know to be incorrect so I can correct it.

So without further adieu, here is what we know so far:

1. The reboot is confirmed. Sort of? Apparently, 20th Century Fox announced at the San Diego Comicon this year on July 20, but I can’t find a video confirming this. Every blog and their mother have posted that there is a reboot in the works, but I can’t find any actual quotes from Joss or Co. regarding it. Most articles refer to <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/buffy-vampire-slayer-reboot-inclusive-take-joss-whedon-works-1128888">this</a> article from The Hollywood Reporter, which cites vague “sources” for their facts. “>this</a>. But again, I’d feel better if I saw a video of Joss actually saying the reboot is happening. Do you have one? If so, submit it please.

2. Joss will be executive producer. Again, I can not find an actual video of him saying this, but it is being reported.

3. No network or timeline for the series has been announced.

4. Monica Owusu-Breen <a href=”http://deadline.com/2018/07/buffy-the-vampire-slayer-series-reboot-in-works-black-lead-monica-owusu-breen-joss-whedon-1202430592/”>will run and write the new series.</a>

5. The actress cast to play Buffy will be black. At this point, it’s not even clear if this will be a remake or sequel. Will this be a televised version of the comics? Because as we all know, the story is lives on in those. Or will this be a remake of the high school years? It remains to be seen. There are so many questions and so few answers.
