Imagine this, you're a lousy little freshman coming into high school band, and you're ready to try out for the hardest band in your state. You've been working on this audition for MONTHS now. Five months of your summer break. Hours and hours of your time being spent practicing and perfectly 12 scales and two etudes. To then walk into the audition room and freeze up. To miss the last couple of scales. To beat yourself up hard every night over it. To think maybe you're too hard on yourself. To hold your head high on the day of results. To hear the excitement in your band director`s voice when they say it's up. To hear your own heart break when you jumped the gun. To beat yourself over it every night. That's what band is when you're a lousy freshman. But then to say you'll work so much harder next year to make it. That's what band is when you're a lousy freshman.

A couple days ago at our last home football game, it was senior night. So basically the seniors of the football team, cheerleading, band and guard, go onto the field before the game and they get their name called out for everyone to hear. Now these seniors, the freshman only knew for a couple months now. But there was a bunch of the freshman that cheered and hollered louder then any one else for the band seniors. That's how close you get to everyone in band. Band is family.
