Revy mia crush tossica (mai nella vita vera sarei attratto da una così, ma in una storia sì, la adoro)
The English dub of BL is really good, and what I prefer over the Japanese dub for a number of reasons, but a major one for me is Revy's voice. Her seiyuu, Megumi Toyoguchi, plays her as too cool-headed for me personally. She sounds too in control of her emotions, and not wild and crazy enough. Her expressions and words feel mismatched to the voice. This is I feel a problem a lot of Japanese (but also English) voice acting has, where seiyuus will go with a voice for a character based on a loose archetype they fit into, rather than what fits best for that specific character. Revy I feel would suit a voice that gives off the feeling of a brash delinquent girl or a very rough-around-the-edges woman (Jolyne and Ermes from Stone Ocean come to mind, as well as Baiken from Guilty Gear), rather than a stone-cold killer.
In the English version though, the voice acting feels much better suited to the character of Revy. She has a much more expressive range of emotion, so it makes the moments where she does act cool-headed and rationally stand out way more and feel more interesting, as opposed to more of the same. The vocal fry also REALLY adds a great texture to her voice that I love. Maryke Hendrikse's performance gets to be crass, loud, abrasive, emotional and cruel as well as badass and intimidating, not just another "cool woman with a gun".

@animangacreators challenge sixty-four tattoos ✶ revy
Revy falling for the "Your shoelaces are untied" thing is perfect characterisation tbh. Her expression at first reading as "No way I'm falling for that..." before she thinks about it for a second, considers the possibility that she may have actually left her boots untied and Roberta isn't lying to her, decides it is worth checking just in case, and looks down. What a fucking idiot lmao (<- would probably fall for it too)
Everyday I realise more and more that Revy and Nicole are basically the same character, one was just born a generation earlier and in poverty, and directly and deliberately kills people.
