I'm sure this has been talked about but I cannot remember who talked about it to go looking for it. So anyone who has or does participate in bite sports, this question is for you.
What things do you look for in assessing if a club is a good fit for you? I am looking into Mondio clubs for a potential/future puppy. (And for anyone wondering, no I do not plan to introduce this sport to Forte.)
I visited one relatively close (less than two hours away) to me last summer and liked the head trainer/decoy. I found them to be very knowledgeable, personable, and they work with some folks who have dogs from Forte's breeder. Unfortunately I did not enjoy the vibe from the group who was there that day. I am both disabled and queer and those topics came up, unprompted by me, and I wasn't thrilled with the direction said conversations took.
There is another club that is about two to three hours away that I really like based on their website and am heavily considering asking to hang out and watch for a day. But also I'm nervous asking because they talk about being sponsored by a current member and I don't know anyone.
And of course, I am second guessing myself on whether or not I'm being too sensitive and should give the first club another try. Since there seems to be less of a barrier to entry.
So yeah, words from those with first hand experience on how they chose their club would be super helpful.
I am open to clubs in NJ, NY, PA, or even MD. If folks are familiar with clubs in those areas that they personally recommend, that would be awesome too.
Thoughts welcome on this post or via private message. Much thanks y'all.
