Like last week, we sorta get two party members so the first one is the man with hair the color of his flesh: Lysandre! (It looks less fleshy in the HQ picture but I will still call him that)
Lysander (CV: Junichi Yanagida) The outstanding knight of Saramis. From a prestigious family, his uncle is the current prime minister, and his father is also a great warrior who has etched his name in the kingdom's history. He is loyal and capable, but sometimes takes bold steps out of a desire to achieve results without relying on bloodline. ⢠Likes: Looking at the sky
His full name is Lysandre Kratos so Greece is still the most common place we're pulling names from (complaining later) He's some sort of lance cavalier.
His accompanying clip also introduces Lillian Tabitha a new party member and his other comedic foil, which I feel like he's gonna be in a lot of supports.
Finally. A character from Saramis who's design I have nothing to complain about! She actually looks really pretty. Also seems to only care about being paid so might be cross-recruitable. Idk about Lysandre.
Lillian is another French name that Wikipedia says specifically seems to have come into use during the first French colonial empire, which, yikes but also there's not a lot of French names that aren't gonna be associated with colonialism, which is why you should probably stop using the French names.
We are also 7 names in, 8 if you wanna count both Bonaventure and Bonaparte seperately, 10 if you want to include last names, and only ONE (1) Is non-European, and it's the guy who looks evil. At least with Lillian a couple of the people in the name's wiki page are Black Africans. I don't believe that's intentional and it would be kind of bad if it was, but still.
Also other thing: so between these two and Buccar it's becoming clear that the design choice is that *specifically* the Dark skinned people from Saramis look like shit?
Which... yeah I don't think there's a way to say "all of the dark-skinned people from the ostensibly African nation look like walking corpses who've never seen the sun before" that isn't racist. Best I have is saying something like every single dark-skinned person from Saramis we've seen so far is a all hoity toity nobles who don't work in the fields, and that's why they look like that, but 1) that's demonstrably not true and 2) would mean we're doing some kind of reverse colorism which I already don't want, but I especially don't want it from a place that values light skin as much as FUCKING JAPAN
Like I've said before, it's not really an improvement if the defense is "we're not doing the racist design tropes with all the Black characters, just the darker ones from Africa!"
