1, 6, 8, 16 for the D&D questions!
1. What was the first race you ever played as?
I played a halfling named Ravyre Woodsheart. Pronounced Wood-Shart. Whatâs so funny? She doesnât get why youâre laughing at that.Â
The biggest reason why I wanted to play a halfling was so I could have a giant Saint Bernard as a mount. His name was Cronus and he was the party tank, because this was 3.5 and animal companions were OP.
6. What is your favorite class?I answered this, but let me tell you I am actually in the market to play another one, because I have always, always, always wanted to play a swashbuckler. I made a high elf rogue Vessarin Nym with the intention of making him the charismatic musketeer-scoundrel of my dreams, but the campaign stopped before we ever reached level 3.Â
8. Do you prefer theater of the mind or grids?Â
Nine times out of ten, I prefer grids. Itâs hard for me to retain information if Iâm only hearing it (as opposed to also seeing it, or writing it down). Anyone whoâs played with me will know: if I donât see it in front of me, Iâm going to ask the DM to reiterate the situation at the start of all of my turns.
Grids allow players to see a situation as it is and think more tactically about whatâs happening.
But theater of the mind is real quick, and great if you just want to get a random encounter out of the way.Â
16. What is your favorite spell?
I have a lot of great memories attached to Enemies Abound. One time my players, who were in a band, were playing a show. The guitar player slipped out into the audience and cast Enemies Abound on one of the people in the audience. Immediately, the guy started throwing hands, creating a mosh pit. We renamed the spell to Open Up The Pit.
But a close second was Mordenkainenâs Faithful Hound, lovingly referred to at our table as Mordenkainenâs Good Boy.
