The 1976 Super DC Calendar! (And Other Birthdays)
A little while back, I reblogged a post about Dick Grayson's birthday and how he has three of them...or four, if you count the one from the Young Justice cartoon series.
Well, I've got something related to that. Sometimes I've mentioned a book called The Atlas of the DC Universe (1990). Great little book. In a similar vein, in 1976 there was this thing released called the Super DC Calendar. It was a regular calendar, but filled with various character birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
It's not exactly easy to find, but with patience, somebody found it and copied all the data.
And here it is.
Isn't that awesome? It even has some additional dates added on as well. According to this calendar, Bruce Wayne's birthday is February 19th (backed up by Batman Family #11 (1977)). Lois Lane's birthday is August 17th, the day after Jason Todd's, etc., etc.
Seriously, why doesn't DC do things like this anymore? I think stuff like this or the atlas are really cool. Hell, did you know they once put out encyclopedias of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman? Circa 2008. I have all three and they're great. You'd still cross reference with the DC Database, and the articles don't have the specific references in the text because that would disrupt readability, but they're great ways to start.
Why doesn't DC do that more? Oh, wait, that would mean having to go through their own mess of continuity. Right...
Still, just...dates on the calendar would be nice. Not even years, just days. Hmph.
Here are a few other dates to add to that list.
Cassandra Cain's birthday is January 26th (same year as Jason). Established in Batgirl 2003 #37.
Boston Brand's murder date is technically incorrect, as Strange Adventures #209 from February 1968 puts it as September 10, not August 10th.
Kate and Beth Kane were once given a birthday of March 21st. Of course, that was only thrown at at random by one of her writers (Joshua Williamson III) on Twitter. Does that really qualify it as canon? I mean, it is one of her writers, but...for some reason I find myself not entirely sure.
Eh, let's count it.
Poison Ivy's birthday is also March 14th (Batman Family #17), as well as a villainess called Madame Zodiac (same source)
