OFFICIAL TRAILER: THE MESSENGER DOCUMENTARY
I had the privilege of seeing this on Friday night (Earth Day!), when producer JoAnne Jackson & Dr. Bridget Stutchbury (author of Silence of the Songbirds) were on-site afterward for a Q&A, including a 4-minute clip of how they got that gorgeous flight footage youāll see glimpses of it the trailer. The film is beautiful, heartbreaking (it makes you want to go vigilante on cats and French ortolan hunters), and inspiring all at once. It made me newly sad that I didnāt go to Cornell to study ornithology (my childhood dream), as I could have been a part of this in some fashion or another, but I was also captivated by the variety of people who areĀ involved in the preservation of songbirds (the man who tells them to shut off the lights at the 9/11 display because birds are in dangerĀ is officially a rock star in my opinion). People have this notion that only the retired and elderly have any interest in birds butĀ The MessengerĀ is filled with fascinating folks of all ages from across the globe whose livesā work is helping birds - including several young(ish) men (so maybe thereās a spouse out there for me yet! ;D).
If you care about birds in any small way, shape, or form, you absolutely need to see The Messenger (upcoming dates/locationsĀ here - or request a special showing if itās not coming to your area!) and spread the word. Iāve seen very little Tumblr interest in regard to this film and would love to help change that! If you post about the film, please use the hashtags #birdsmatter and/or #songbirdsos (theyāre semi-official, I believe :D).
