What’s a bird to do when the big Necro-God Star Dragon has to bail on life? Take his place of course!
There is a surprising amount of evidence that Rathma canonically turned into a snake at some point. I have my own theories about that, but in fluffyverse it is very much canon that Rathma goes full giant-kaiju-bird-snake so that all his little necromancers can keep utilizing the Balance.
A boon for them. Had unforeseen, long-lasting consequences for him.
