The war between humans and monsters if it continued to the present day, and had a few more alterations sprinkled in. Overall, it's a war story set on the surface. You can consider it the Second War between Humans and Monsters.

I’ve been wanting to introduce you guys to my Undertale AU called Øvertime - and been needing to introduce it because it includes so much into future lore about CascadeERROR! And Bio! Sans ( @ask-biotale )

I am aware there’s an AU that’s already called the same name.

OVERTIME

Humans and Monsters were at war. Monsters were afraid of humans, while human saw them as dangerous beasts and curses. There were so many humans, the Monsters knew they were outnumbered. Many Monsters were killed. The artificial recreation of Chara (who we'll refer to as Hyacinth) killed almost all of the Monster population, including killing Nine's brother right in front of him. And no, Nine did not like that one bit. Nine sought vengeance but almost died, getting stabbed in the eye. Eventually, he managed to flee with the other Monsters. But Hyacinth loved to wait.

The reason the war started was all because Gaster and Undyne went on a trip to give the humans a peace offering in an attempt to set their differences aside. But then they went missing. Alphys took care of Nine and Papyrus the whole time they were missing, and eventually, Mettaton was sent to see if they were okay. Mettaton came back with a blinded Undyne in poor condition, who proceeded to explain Gaster's death. They had both been tranquilized, restrained, and contained to be experimented on by the humans. Eventually Gaster managed to sacrifice himself so that Undyne was able to escape with Mettaton. Seeing this as a grave injustice, Queen Toriel held a meeting with King Asgore and other high ranking officials. She insisted that they should fight for their people, but when Asgore declined, citing the immeasurable power of the humans and how many of them there were, Toriel called him a coward and exiled him before becoming the sole Queen of the Monsters and declaring war on humanity. Toriel put Undyne in charge despite her clear blindness, as Undyne insisted and would not take no for an answer.

After Nine almost died, Alphys was worried about Nine's health due to his injuries. But, while Alphys wasn't looking, Nine grabbed one of the potions Alphys had been secretly working on at the time. She had been trying to research how to make a limitless power, something faster than the speed of sound, and possibly even the speed of light if given the right host. Something that's fast enough to defeat the humans, and win the war. Something fast enough to defeat Hyacinth. Alphys had made multiple samples, but thought they all failed. The moment Nine drank the potion, he felt shocks all across his body as if he had been struck by lightning. Immediately, he had been affected by the potion. Nine had gained the ability to move faster than sound, maybe even faster than light if he really tried. Nine passed out from the physical strain, and was healed up by Alphys as soon as she found him. Nine, having kept his brother's scarf to never forget him, put it on in order to remember what he's fighting for. Ignoring all protests from Alphys, Nine went out into battle. He dealt blow after blow to human after human until eventually he was faced with Hyacinth again.

They had their first fight, one which ended in a draw.
