Pitch Black (2000) dir. David Twohy
Yeah the blos wyverns are herbivores (that presumably eat meat more than the average herbivore because let’s face it being a vegetarian will not let you grow that many bony horns and armor), with Diablos being a cactus specialist. This is further supported by Diablos’s weird dentition. Specialist herbivores (and herbivorous ungulates in general) have really weird dentition.
Gorgonopsids, Therocephalians, and Cynodonts all seem to be the most likely candidates for the beef jerky pit bull.
No I wouldn’t consider them generic movie monsters. While they can be forgettable appearance wise depending on who you ask, they came from a time with more varied creature designs, so they had no trouble sticking out, and they look pretty believable as far as aliens in media go. They almost give off a Wayne Barlow feel.
That once again depends on who you ask and how you or said person interprets them. Depending on how Capcom feels, everything that isn’t a mammal is a saurischian dinosaur (yes I do mean everything).
I personally think it’s a catch all term for various synapsids, Pseudosuchians, Actinistians, dinosaurs, and so much more.
As for what a Wyvern is outside of monhun? “Wyvern” is just a term for a type of two legged and two winged dragon from various Mythos across the world.
yeah… Capcom really stretches the definition of that word.
Blagonga actually has a pretty wide gape so I think they probably are used in capturing prey. Much like the raptorial bird wyverns and various pack hunting animals irl, blagonga might actually be a useful specialized member of his troop (as well as being the leader). In nature certain pack members are differently built for special tasks to help the pack get more food. For instance, adult male wolves are more robustly built than adult females, so they’re crucial for landing the killing blow in incredibly large animals like moose. Without them the pack would have to go back to smaller prey items.
Blagonga might be the same. Without their troop leader the blangos might have to switch back to smaller, less fruitful food items.
It is true that most prosimians have claws, but these are actually a specialized type of finger nail used for grooming. But rajang and blagonga (congalala is once again the oddball here) claws are very similar to these types of nails, so they might actually be grooming claws! The prosimian idea does hold merit, although I personally feel like they’re simians proper.
They’re probably just mesopredators in comparison to the larger wyverns.
Running with my headcanon that monhun animals coexist with all irl species, their place in comparison to other predators might be above irl apex predators or directly competing with them, and then larger wyverns being a trophic level or two above.
Congalala is also a fungivore and rajang is a Kirin specialist.
