Static {part 3}
Hello again! Here is the final part to this little series for @bionic-buckyb âs angst writing challenge! Thank you for taking the time to read it.
Pairing: Steve Rogers x reader
Warnings: language and implied smut
Word Count: 2,042
Prompt: âYour legs bleeding.â
âOh, really? I hadnât noticed that half of my goddamned blood was flowing out of my leg, thanks for letting me know.â
Part 2
âWeâre tearing that fucking place apart.â
âSteveââ
âNo, Natasha. I donât care what you have to say. Do you see her? Do you see what theyâve fucking done to her? I canât. I justâI canât.â
âAll right, Stevie. Try to relax. Get some rest. Iâll take next watch.â
Steve sighed. A barely audible âYeah, right,â passing from his lips.
You had no idea what was going on. All you knew was that you hurt. Everything hurt. Your skin, your leg, your eyelids every time you blinked. But you werenât really blinking. Your eyes were too heavy, and the outside world was still too bright. You werenât ready for all that yet. Hearing Steveâs voice, though, that about killed you. You had seen Steve at a few of his lowest points; thatâs normally when you found your way to each other. Never had you heard him like this. SoâŚso down and utterly broken.
To know it was over you made it so much worse. Why couldnât you stay away? Why couldnât you put your feelings for him aside like you did everything else? Why did the thought of shutting him out hurt so goddamn much? So many whys and not enough answers. Youâd be screaming and pulling at your roots if you could. You liked knowing all the answers, even if all you were doing was pretending to. But this, this was hard.
It was like Bucky was attuned to you. You werenât conscious to the outside world, but he knew you were awake; listening. You heard him heave out a heavy sigh when the door closed. That was when you heard the faint beeping of the heart monitor. Thatâs all it took for you to piece it together. Theyâd gotten you out and were guarding you at the Avengerâs compound. Stupid, stupid, stupid. You werenât safe anywhere with anybody. Not anymore.
âYâknow how hard it was to get you out of there with a fucked-up arm, Y/N?â Bucky drawled. Yeah, he definitely knew you were listening. âYou and that damn pride. Yâalso know that when you use your ability, it leaves an energy behind? I can feel it pulsing in my arm. The closer I am to you, the stronger it gets.â
Leaves an energy behind? That was new. Made sense and was probably how they had managed to find you. You needed to get up now. Focusing all your energy you tried opening your eyes. You knew the room was going to blinding, the white walls and their lack of dĂŠcor trying to take out your retinas. Squinting, you were amazed it had worked. The world was blurry, and your eyes burned in their sockets. A frown formed on your lips when you focused on Bucky who was staring smugly at you.
âYou and that damn pride.â
Your eyes narrowed. That was twice nowâyou may be in a hospital bed, but you could still shock the shit out of him. You and Bucky Barnes walked a very thin line between love and hate. The feeling in your gut told you that it only leaned towards love because of who his best friend was. Which for you, was saying a lot.
âHow long are you going to make him wait before you tell him Iâm awake?â
He leaned forward, handing you a cup of water that you took gratefully. âFigured youâd want a minute to breathe before he started rattling off atcha.â
âI triedââ
âI know you did. I told him thatââ
ââbut it doesnât matter that you did. You know Steve,â
There was light tapping on the door, the silhouette of a super soldier making your insides turn. It had been a long time since he had made you feel anything that resembled nervous. Your eyes flashed to Buckyâs, who simply shrugged his shoulders. You bit down on your chapped lip, readying yourself.
âSheâs awake, Steve.â Bucky called out when you finally nodded your head.
âAre you alright?â Steve blurted out as soon as he was through the door.
You snorted. âYeah, Stevie. Feeling just fucking peachy.â
You yelped when Bucky flicked the arch of your foot. The both of you glaring at each other, neither one of you backing down. It was only the feeling of Steveâs callused fingertips tracing your jawline that pulled your attention back to him. Your breath caught in your throat at the tender look in his eyes. His blue gaze heavy on you, searching over your faceâtaking in every flaw that made you, well, you. You werenât sure youâd ever felt more vulnerable in your life. Damn him, damn him to hell.
âY/N are you alright?â
âIâI will be.â
You could feel him struggling. Struggling to get the words out. He wanted to know how they found you. He wanted to make sure youâd be okay. He wanted to keep you there with him. You were sure that Steve Rogers had been created specifically to watch you burn. Thatâs what if felt like. There was a spark between the two of you; always has been. The energyâthe staticâit buzzed between you freely. Everything about you called out to him, and he always came willingly.
Your lip quivered, eyes ignoring both gazes that were burning into you. You felt it this time. You felt it deep in your bonesâin your very being. This was it. This was the last goodbye. There was no way either of you could keep this up. There would be no fighting about it. Youâd get out of the med bay, youâd have one last night together. Then youâd be like a phantom, a ghost, a dream that no one was sure if you were actually real or not.
                              ***
You had never been in the Avengers tower. Not with all of them in it, anyway. You took in everything around you. It was hard to miss the fact that it was Stark money that built the place. High ceilings, open layout, and floor to ceiling windows. Everything screamed âlook at meâ. A frustrated sigh escaped you when a spasm shot through your leg, making your knee and hip give out at the same time. You would have completely collapsed if it hadnât been for Steve walking next to youâto make sure that exact thing didnât happen. You didnât miss him shake his head before he was swooping you up and tossing you over his shoulder along with your bag.
âSteven Grant,â you bit out, your face flushing from slight embarrassment and the fact that all your blood was rushing to your head.
âY/N,â
Never one to miss out on an opportunity, you smacked your hand hard against Steveâs backside, sending small shocks up his spine. You snickered when he cursed lightly under his breath. For being a soldier, he sure did have a mouth like a sailor. Not that you were complaining.
âWhy are you always causing trouble, huh?â
âOnly for you, boy wonder. You make it too easy.â
A beat of silence passed when you finally made it to Steveâs room. Your eyes held a promise of mischief, a rumble of laughter echoed off the walls when he set you to your feet. He knew your tricks and he delighted in themâwhatever they were at the time. Steve didnât miss the familiar edge that usually carried with you was now no where to be seen. Even though you were the one to set the pace, to make the rules as you went along, you were also putty in his hands. That never happened. Not once in your time together had you ever given him complete control. Steve thought on it only for a moment before your lips were wrapped around him nice and pretty; everything but you left his mind.
There you were again. Watching the stupid sunrise from the warmth and comfort of Steveâs bed. You were arguing with yourself. You needed to leave, but would it really kill you if you stayed only five more minutes? No, it wouldnât kill you, but itâd put you in the hospital for almost a week. You sighed, thumping your head against the pillows. You had told yourself you werenât going to fight itâyou werenât going to fight him. It was just so damn hard. It was hard to leave someone you loved behind. It was even worse when you didnât want to admit that you were in love with them.
But you never would have to admit it, Steve already knew. He stirred against you, rough fingers tracing patterns on the bare skin of your hipbone. Your eyes fluttered shut, taking in the feeling. It was the little things, you think, that you were going to miss the most.
âY/N,â Steve whispered, breaking the resemblance of cloud nine that had been cloaking you.
âThis has to be the last time.â
âY/N,â
You shook your head, tears starting to roll down your cheeks like the rain falling from the clouds outside. When the hell did those get there? Did it really matter? God, it wasnât like you wanted it to be this way. If you had it your way, Steve would never leave your side. Youâd be an Avenger and theyâd all have to learn how to deal with your bullshit. But it wasnât an ideal world. You got screwed over more often than not, and SteveâSteve deserved so much better than a runaway science experiment.
âI love you, you know? You deserve the goddamn world, Rogers.â
âAnd what do you deserve, Y/N? When is it going to end?â
You shrugged, âWhen Iâm dead.â
âIs that supposed to be fucking funny?â
âItâs the truth! It doesnât matter how you twist it, Steve. They know how to hurt me now, you canât keep me safe.â
âOf course I can keep you safe!â He all but snarled, pushing off the bed and away from you. âI keep the people I love safe, Y/N. Why canât you fucking see that? What is it going to fucking take?â
The air between the two of you was charged, you could hear the faint crackles from the static in your ears. You sat up slowly, grabbing your underwear off the floor and began gathering the rest of your clothes. You were pretty sure you were leaving a trailâsilent sobs shaking your shoulders, tears not stopping no matter how harshly you wiped them away. Nothing hurt as much as this did. Youâd take that fucking shot in the leg over again a thousand times than have to do this just this once.
âIâm sorry.â You said softly, once your boots were on and laced up.
Your hair was pulled into a messy knot on the top of your head. Your eyes red and puffy, focused on the ground and not on the man standing in front of you. You flinched when his bare feet came into view, his body heat washing over you like waves. You werenât even sure he had put any clothes on and you really didnât want to find out. Only one that kept running through your head in a constant loop. Get out, get out, get out. You were starting to feel like a caged animal and that was never good.
âWhen you step out that door, you arenât coming back.â
You didnât know how Steve manage to make those words sound like both a question and a statement. The ice in his voice pierced your heart. There was no one to blame but yourself.
âNo.â
He let out a staggered breath. âOkay.â
With that he left you to it. He made his way to the bathroom, shut the door and locked it. You heard the shower turn on, you heard the shattering of the bathroom mirror, you heard the pain pouring out of him as he broke down twenty feet away from you. Standing on shaking legs, you wiped furiously at your eyes, picked up your bag and left the room. All you had left behind was your favorite lipstick, and a man that nobody thought could break.
Static {part 2}
Hello! Here is part 2 using my prompt for @bionic-buckyb  âs angst writing challenge!Â
Pair: Steve Rogers x reader
Warnings: Language. Implied smut.
Word Count: 1,029
Prompt:Â âYour legs bleeding.â
âOh really? I hadnât noticed that half my goddamned blood was flowing out of my leg, thanks for letting me know.â
PART 1
The sky looked like it was on fire. Oranges and reds danced and bled with yellows, the sun just breaking over the horizon. God, it was beautiful. The sight before you, the hues dusting the slope of his nose, highlighting his cheekbones. His full lips were slightly parted, his face resting on top of your bare chest. Steve had only been asleep for maybe thirty minutes, and you couldnât bring yourself to move just yet. You really needed to get moving. You couldnât be here when he woke, or youâd never be able to leave. Your eyes shut, hand automatically reaching out to run through his hair. You smiled, slightly pulling at the golden strands. It was the longest youâd ever seen it. You werenât sure what was up with the golden boy, but you couldnât deny that you liked it.
Static {part 1}

Prompt:
âYour legs bleeding.â
âOh really? I hadnât noticed that half of my goddamned blood was flowing out of my leg, thanks for letting me know.â
This was getting really old. It had been years and they were still hunting you down. It had been so long since you had set down roots, you didnât think there was a place that you could call home anymore.Your chipped polished nails tapped on the bar top, bored eyes following the bartender as she passed in front of you. Again. You sighed, sparks falling from your fingertips when they hit the counter. No point in hiding who you were when they already knew. But it wasnât like they were doing their best to hide themselves either.
There were only three people sat at the bar besides yourself. You shook your head, letting your curls fall around your face. Nothing gave them away like the man sitting next to you. He could hide his face, but there was no hiding that metal arm. You snorted, swirling the dark liquid in the glass. They were playing youâhe was playing you. If anyone were to get through to you itâd be the winter soldier. With another sigh you tossed the shot back, a current running from your hand on the glass, down the table and up his arm. You heard him hiss before you felt his steely gaze burning a hole into the side of your head.
âWhere is he, James.â
He flinched at the use of his first name. âHe isnât here.â
âBullshit. Youâre telling me he only sent you and Natasha in?â
âMaybe he figured you wouldnât listen. Like always.â
You snorted, signaling for Natasha to bring you another shot. If the spy was going to play bartender, she might as well make herself useful. You shook your head. He wasnât wrong; you never listened. You didnât want to listenâyour heart couldnât afford to listen.
âLike always,â you muttered, sparks flying from your fingertips with your agitation. âbut he keeps on fucking trying, doesnât he?â
âY/N,â Bucky warned, his eyes on your hands.
âYou know, maybe I should come around. I bet Thor and I would have some fun.â
âIs this a god damn game to you?â
You smiled. It was a game when he made it one. Youâd run, and heâd chase you. It was like an extreme game of tag. A game that youâve been playing for far too long. You wanted nothing to do with the Avengers. Only wanting Steve Rogers, but you learned the hard way that they came as a package deal. There was no physical place you could call home, but Americaâs golden boy would always be center axis, your 0,0.
âIf youâve got nothing good to tell me, Barnes, then I should be making my leave.â
âY/N,â
You paused in your step, the air crackling around you when Buckyâs fingers wrapped themselves around your arm. He wasnât hurting you, not even closeâheâd rather die than hurt youâbut no one touched you. Ever. Light bulbs exploded around you, people ducking under the tables to avoid getting cut by the shards of glass. You stood your ground, ready to get the hell out of there. You had just started to get comfortable, and they had to ruin your fun. You werenât in the mood for games. You werenât going to give in and theyâd never force you to, so why bother wasting each otherâs time? If Steve honestly wasnât waiting in the shadows for youâŚyou sighed. It was better to not get your hopes up. You turned on your heel, ripping your arm from Buckyâs grasp and made your way to the back door. The whirling of Buckyâs metal arm reached your ears. He just couldnât fucking get it. Flexing your hand, you sent a wave of electricity through his armâthe plates screeching against one another, the wires sizzling as they short circuited. You ignored him cursing your name as you exited the building.
âYouâre really going to piss him off one of these days.â
Goosebumps erupted over your skin. His voice draping over you like a worn blanket. Soft, comforting, familiar. A smile crept its way on to your face when you felt the heat of his body pressed against your back. It wasnât you making the sparks this timeâit was all him. You hummed in content, your head falling back against his shoulder. The fabric of his leather jacket pulling at your hair.
âMaybe heâll learn to keep his hands to himself. After all this time, youâd think the fucker would know better.â
You felt Steveâs chest rumble with his barely contained laughter. âYou and that mouth of yours.â
You turned, eyes alight with humor meeting his steely gaze. He wore a smirk, his body relaxed. He was waiting for you to make the first move. Your head shook, lazy fingertips tracing up the hard plains of his chest, grabbing at the lapels of his jacket and pulling him as close as he could get.
âYeah? What of it, boy wonder?â
Steve smiled, his hands grabbing at your hips, a string of curses falling from his lips when you sent a shock through him. The man liked pain, you had learned, and you aimed to please. He squeezed your hips, letting you know that by the time he was through with you, youâd have the shape of his hands painted all over your skin. You sighed, feeling him overwhelm you. How long had it been? Six months? A year? Did it matter? The answer was simpleâno, it didnât. All that mattered was his lips on yours. His hands on your skin. Your fingers tangled in hair. His blue eyes focused on nothing but you. The only sound coming from you was his nameâa chant, a prayer, a beg for release. Over and over and over again.
You and Steve were a story that had been told a time or two before. A tall tale that changed every time it was shared. Nothing major, just little details that slippedâsomething new that remained to be discovered. The way your back arched off the mattress in your dingy motel room. He had barely even started, and you were already a mess. Not that he minded, if the low, guttural moan that escaped him when he ripped the black lace off your chest was anything to go by.
âYou know, I think I fall in love with you every time we do this,â Steve said as he kissed a hot trail down your neck.
You rolled your eyes, anxious hands yanking at his pants and pushing them down his thighs. âYou are such a fucking sap, Rogers. Arenât you ever going to learn?â
He stopped moving, his face coming back up to hover over yours. You wanted to flinch at the softness in his eyes. The certainty that he knew what he was up against. You had him wrapped around your little finger. One zap and heâd be down on his knees ready to do your bidding. Steve would give you the fucking world on a silver platter if itâs what you wanted. Youâd never ask, because all that you desired was peace. For you to even obtain an ounce of that, you had to fight tooth and nail for it. Staring up at Steve Rogers, watching him look at you like you hung the moon and all its stars, it was very clear that he was never going to learn.
