rewatching bionic showdown and douglas and marcus have a way more father-son esque relationship than i remembered
they banter about dancing and Oklahoma, and douglas sounds genuinely proud when he says that marcus made drama club. marcus says "get off my BACK" in a whiny voice just like you'd expect a teenager to of a child. and in earlier episodes they have the silly banter about "we" vs "i". and its surprisingly sweet and funny!
but it also makes it all the more fucked up that douglas in that same episode calls Marcus his "bionic weapon". then in the next episode, he says marcus is "just an android", makes jokes about his death, and then leaves marcus to die.
When marcus does come back, he only invites marcus back into the family in a high pressure situation where marcus holds the power. and *even then* he adds in that marcus should be reprogrammed first. despite everything, marcus is just a tool to him. whether his use be family fantasy or evil henchman, he doesnt actually respect Marcus as a fully sentient being.
(also this is completely unrelated but marcus is wearing dress shoes???? with his jeans and long sleeves under short sleeves t shirt combo??? what a baffling combination)
