#biol 343

Oh my goodness, I love those 2 courses to absolute pieces, I really do. 324 was more memorization heavy, you do have to remember specific details from your notes for the exams. 343 was less focused on the scientific details, and more about the applications. 

You need to know their functions though, like what the heck a sepal is for and what’s the purpose of the style. I think there were some stuff on tissue layers, like xylem, phleom, what sort of cells make them up and how they are arranged. I don’t think we talked about proteins or chemicals, I think that was more 210 stuff. 

You learned about a different family of plants each class and then you would get some hands-on experience with them in lab. I can’t really remember the details anymore since it’s been a while since I’ve taken the course and I took so many plant courses that I have trouble linking up material to the specific class I learned it from. 

Have you tried looking on Google for the class website?  A quick search gives me these sites where you can learn about each what each lecture and lab covered in detail:

It’ll be hard to minimize tuition just because you need 120 credits to graduate and each credit costs about $160 as a Science student.

Biol 343, Plants and Peoples, doesn’t have any pre-reqs except for Biol 121, which most Science students have anyway. I really enjoyed it because I love studying plants, but it’s also a great introductory course to botany if you’re curious about that area. 

That’s pretty much the only upper level Science course I know that doesn’t have any pre-reqs aside from 100-level Sciences, and some of the EOSC courses like EOSC 326 and EOSC 340. 

Plants and People

This course is so damn fascinating, there's a really great mix of Science and Arts in the topics taught (the students in the class are also from a wide range of faculties as there is no pre-req for the course!), from cells to spices and organic food. 

It's about the interaction between people and plants, so far we've discussed GMOs and GEs, the spice trade, food, where ingredients in our food comes from and origins of agriculture! 

We have to do an independent project as well on a topic not covered in class and I've chosen to do a report on plants and indoor air filtration, the stuff I've found so far is really cool!
