So as an Asian adoptee in a basically 98% white town where the only other Asians are adoptees, how do I confront racism, stereotyping, awkward conversations ("why are your parents white?", "do you know your REAL parents?", biology and genetic discussions["my eyes are from my mother!"]), and just the confusion and plain awkwardness of being an adoptee?
Hi! <3
First off, hereâs what NOT to do.
Never try to educate ignorant bio spawn, their ignorance is their own failing and their responsibility. Never be made to feel that itâs your job to educate them.
As for what to do:
Have fun at the expense of silly, uneducated opinions. Turn their ridiculous questions back on them âwhy are YOUR parents white?â âhow did it feel when you came out of your parentâs genitals?â âwhy did your parents choose to breed yet another life into this world of rapidly dwindling resources?â and be all sweet and innocent once the bio spawn get flustered :) Also feel free to their colorblind racist nonsense against them, âoh, I donât see raceâ and all that jazz.
Keep in touch!
