of the myriad of concepts Iāve been exposed to through the course of my college biology minor one of the ones that really shifted my entire perspective on human existence was just how much we completely underestimate bacteria and other microbes.
there was an article one of my professors had us read that (while centered around the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic) also really dove into this concept of human hubris and how for some reason we as a collective species inherently situate ourselves as the ādominantā species on the planet despite the fact that the full span of our existence is barely even a blip in comparison to how long other living species have been around, plus the fact that we could literally be entirely decimated in equally as short a time if even a single superbug managed to evolve enough resistance to our strongest antibiotics (the concept of superbugs as a whole keeps me up at night lol but thatās a different post)
but yeah in terms of numbers? microbes rule the fuckin earth.
anyway all this to say: respect those lil things. we as humans take far too much credit for being the ādominantā species on the planet just cause we got big brains. also microbes are cool and awesome as fuck. and while youāre at it maybe consider ur own views of nature / ānatural orderā and whether or not humans are the only species centered in them
