you know what, i dont see enough indian trans men around. i think we need more indian trans men in everything and everywhere. where are all my brothers. i know theyre out there.
things that annoy me:
"trans men dont face misogyny!! trans men have no idea what misogyny feels like!!"
right, sorry. clearly trans men didn't spend a large part of their childhoods (and even their adult lives, if theyre unable to transition or are in a transphobic environment) being perceived as!! no way!! girls!! (hmm, i wonder what the 'trans' part of the name is supposed to mean) and therefore have faced misogyny as a result of being perceived as, you guessed it! girls!!
oh, and i guess that once someone says hes a trans guy, everyone goes "welp!!! its a boy!!!" yeah, we totally dont live in a transphobic society where trans people are not viewed, by transphobes, as the gender they identify as. oh no no! the fact that we identify as men totally erases the fact that we're still trans, right? wrong!! plenty of people see trans men as just girls who need fixing. take my family, for instance!
"trans men dont face ANY discrimination because they identify as men!!!"
this is for the people who say identifying as a man gives you the highest privilege in society.
okay, let's take a trans man who is perceived by everyone as a cis man. nobody knows he's trans!!!! but hey, what if he's not white? what if he's disabled? what if he's not well off? what if he's also anything, literally anything else, that is also discriminated against in society? because unless you forgot, we also live in a society which is racist, ableist, homophobic, and many other things.
trans men face discrimination, just like anyone else. we receive hatred for the "crime" of being trans, and the "crime" of being men. do not pretend that it doesn't happen. it does.
and before you come at me about saying the "crime" of being men, i mean being hated solely because we identify as men.
i was pissed off when i wrote this so please tell me if i should reword it in any way!
this story doesnt have a moral im just yapping
when i was eleven or something and just realizing "huh, i'm trans" one of my biggest problems was thinking i wasn't 'trans enough'. i looked for stories of trans men to learn more and found out that my experiences didn't seem to match the ones that seemed to be common. i never went out of my way to dress masculine (in fact i used to beg to wear pretty dresses), i never wanted to be a male character while playing house and i never had masculine nicknames. i was a girly little girl the whole time.
uhh but i still feel like a dude. i still want to look like a dude. it just showed itself in different ways. like wanting to have more friends who were guys, instead of girls. wanting to do things more associated with boys as i was growing up, like playing minecraft or playing football with the other guys at lunch.
but even if i didn't do all those things it wouldn't change the fact that i feel like a guy.
uhh this wasnt meant to have a moral but um what i realized was there's no 'correct' way to be trans and i can just do whatever the fuck i want. joy!
"ugh that weird ukulele 'transmasc' music style is soo cringe ugh!!"
i have a ukulele and i'm very petty. just you wait.
