Billy buttons. New Zealand has these and hobbit holes, and yet somehow still doesn’t have me?
These are craspedia. Pretty much my favorite flower. Also called billy buttons, they’re really just all-around whimsical.

In the fall of 1977, Rebecca meets Billy - model meets musician - Juliet meets Romeo, and their worlds intertwine. He shows her the mean streets of New York, how to survive, and how to make it in showbiz. They’re gonna be stars. Then one day, she comes home to their storefront in the East Village to find that Billy…has been shot. The police are turning their place upside down. Billy survives for ten days, until suddenly, despite an optimistic recovery, he dies, and is sent to an anonymous burial ground. How was Billy killed? Where is his body? What happened?

Wedding season is now in full swing, and with May just a few days away bride’s all over are looking for ways to save their budget. Bouquets, boutonnieres and centerpieces are some of the easiest ways to keep your spending down, while still having stunning decor at your wedding, simply by doing it yourself.

Of course you want the groom and groomsmen to wear a boutonniere, but do you know why? Where this tradition came from?
An explanation given by Saphire Event Group states:
“back in the Medieval period, men in the singles market weren’t exactly stock brokers or computer technicians. No, they were knights in shining armor- literally. As a token of affection, a female admirer would give a knight something to wear into battle, like a scarf or flower. Since the color of the given gift was almost always the same color as what the woman herself wore, the tradition was known as “wearing a lady’s colors.” By sporting the gift, a knight clearly demonstrated he was being supported in battle by a lady who adored him.”
We think it is fun to have the history behind boutonnieres when picking out your flowers for both the bride and groom.
Yellow has become an extremely popular wedding color in the last few years, whether your theme is rustic, vintage or beach, yellow is that perfect pop of color!

Your boutonniere can be as simple as the craspedia by themselves like this example:

Or, you can pair craspedia with so many other dried flowers to create boutonnieres that are unique to your own wedding.
Try pairing the craspedia with echinops or globe thistle

You can also add some wheat or grasses for a more rustic look

Or combine billy balls with bleached aspen skeleton leaves like this beautiful rendition
