This time, "Manabu’s House" welcomes its first guest! We’re joined by culinary expert Harumi Kurihara! We’re going to learn how to ‘work with plums’, something Kurihara-san apparently does every year! First, we’re off to pick the green plums we’ll need for our "plum work"! They say the best plums are those with no blemishes on the skin and which feel firm to the touch! Once we’ve picked enough, Ms Kurihara will teach us "plum processing"! First, we’ll make "plum syrup"! Carefully remove the stalks from the green plums and layer them alternately with granulated sugar. They say the main secret is to add a certain seasoning at the very end! What’s more, each of the "Manabu" participants will make their own "plum liqueur", as well as "chicken fried in plum syrup" using Kurihara-san’s home-dried plums! And over at the rice paddy by "Manabu House", we’ll try our hand at planting rice so we can harvest the new crop in the autumn!
