The morning was glorious. The air had a wonderfully crisp feel and breath hung in the air. Though Jack would wake up alone, if he strained his ears enough, he could hear the quiet pitter-patter of little feet across the cold wooden floors before it all quietened down. Slowly, the door to their bedroom opened, revealing Ambroise and the children. Ambroise holding a tray of two plates. One of pancakes and waffles and the other with a big English breakfast. Elliot held another tray with coffee and juice, Emil held Helena while she presented a bouquet of flowers, waving them back and forth just barely missing her older brothers face. Together, although they were perfectly able to sing, an off key version of happy birthday was sung thanks to Helena’s excited babbles. As soon as the song finished, Ambroise placed the food on the dresser as well as the drinks as the children looked between each other in excitement. As a father, he knew better than to keep them waiting.

The children soon stepped away from the door to make way for their special guests. Three faces, foreign to this land and to this home congratulated Jack on this special day. The elder, Nicholas or, Grandfather North as he pressed the children to be called came with a grand bellow. Rushing over to life Jack out of bed and welcome him with a spine crunching bear hug. Soon followed by a teen and an older woman, his sister and his mother. His mother still taking in the scenery of the home the Alpha had provided her son and his sister lifted Helena from Emil’s tired arms.

Jack was loved. Jack was home.
